Last night, Tyne Daly made a guest appearance on Grey's Anatomy.  This marked her first TV gig since her portrayal as Maxine Gray on the drama Judging Amy.  On the medical drama, she played Carolyn Shepherd, Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) mother who made an unexpected stop over at Seattle Grace to meet Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) for the first time.  Her guest stint may be brief and swift, but it's a good start to get right back into the small screen since she's been gone for almost four years.

“They called me up, and said, ‘we're introducing the character of the mama' and since I specialize in Mamas, I've been playing mamas since I was about 11…They said what they always say to actors ‘We can't think of anybody else we'd rather have than you,'” Tyne Daly told Wordpress in an interview.

In “Sympathy For The Devil," Daly had the chance to work and share scenes with Dempsey, Pompeo and Eric Dane.  But she also wishes that was given the chance to work with Sandra Oh and Sara Ramirez.  Perhaps another time.  Meanwhile, the 62-year-old actress welcomes the possibility of returning to the hallways of Seattle Grace even though producers haven't extended an invitation yet.

“I have no idea.  No one's intimated that, as far as I know this was a one shot deal.  The guys there were great and very kind to me.  They are also in the midst of 5th season-itis, and since I happen to know about 5th seasons of shows, and in fact 6th seasons of shows, and how itchy people can get, you know, I recognize the syndrome.  They were very nice to me.  Nobody said anything about further work there,” Daly said.
