Grey's Anatomy: Sarah Ramirez to spend summer in the recording studio
Tuesday, April 24, 2007

Sarah RamirezSarah Ramirez, who plays Callie O'Malley on Grey's Anatomy, will spend her summer hiatus recording an album.  Now, before you conjure thoughts of Eddie Murphy and Don Johnson bleeding eardrums all across the land, remember that Ramirez is a Tony Award-winner and got her start performing in musicals.  She starred in the Monty Python-inspired Spamalot on Broadway before being cast on Grey's Anatomy.

This is interesting for a couple of reasons.  First, does this mean that Callie will be disappearing from the show after this season?  It could.  Ramirez may be positioning herself for a career after Grey's.  Seriously, who records an album between seasons of a television show?

If she knew that she'd be coming back to the show, then I doubt that Ramirez would be recording an album.  It's a time consuming process.  Especially if she wants to promote the album or go on a tour at some point.  Those things would likely interfere with next season's filming.  However, the nature of Ramirez's album is still a mystery.  It's not a indie project; she's been signed by Universal.

Also, the album (according to Ramirez) is going to be co-written by Eric Idle.  If you don;t know who that is, Idle is one of the genius members of Monty Python.  He wrote many a song during his days with the British comedy troupe, and he was the one who made Spamalot come to fruition.  This fact makes the nature of Sarah's album all the more intriguing.  Will it be a comedy album?  Musical-style songs?  What do you think?
