Greek fans have some new faces to look forward to when the ABC Family series returns for its midseason in the spring of 2009. According to the network, recording artist Jesse McCartney has joined the cast
Greek in a role that will spark rivalry between the Kappa Tau's and Omega Chi's.
McCartney initially came to fame as the youngest member of the boy band Dream Street. Eventually, he branched out into a solo career, having appeared on the television series
Summerland. His other credits include
All My Children, as Theodore in the movie
Alvin and the Chipmunks and most recently as a guest performer on
Dancing With the Stars.
On
Greek, McCartney will portray Andy, a high school friend of Calvin's (
Paul James) who fuels a rivalry between the Kappa Tau and Omega Chi houses when he proves to be an in-demand pledge.
In addition to McCartney,
Greek has also enlisted Ken Marino, an actor-comedian who had early success on television as a member of a comedy troupe on the MTV sketch comedy series
The State in 1993. Subsequently, he had recurring roles on
Dawson's Creek, You Wrote It, You Watch It, Charmed, Rock Me Baby and on cult series
Veronica Mars where he played private detective Vinnie Van Lowe. Most recently, he appeared as gay demon Tony on
Reaper and as Frank on
Reno 911. When
Greek returns with new episodes, Marino will be playing a fellow summer camp counselor with Rusty, played by
Jacob Zachar.
Greek premiered its five-episode second season on August 26 and significantly improved on its first season numbers with increases across key categories, including women and 12-34 demographics. It featured Casey (
Spencer Grammer) dealing with the consequences of Rebecca's actions during spring break which includes participation in a wet T-shirt contest, while Cappie and Evan's rivalry heated up with Greek Week and Rebecca's spring break video started to circle throughout campus.
When Greek returns for the second half of its second season, Casey will have to deal with a secret sorority and spies as she enters her senior year while Rusty returns as a sophomore and a full-fledged active Kappa Tau member.
