but has attracted quite a lot of buzz with her relationship with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri - so much buzz that it has also caught the attention of the writers of Gossip Girl.
Hathaway's got nothing to do with Gossip Girl
and she won't be visiting the Upper East Side either. According to Entertainment Weekly
's Michael Ausiello, however, the show is planning a season-ending storyline loosely inspired by the actress' controversial romance.

Unless you've been living under a rock, then you've probably heard of Follieri, who was convicted last October on 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy. During their relationship, Hathaway took part in the expansion of the charitable Follieri Foundation, serving as a financial donor as well as a member of the foundation's board of directors until 2007. In early June 2008, the organization had come under investigation by the IRS, reportedly for failing to file tax papers required from non-profit organizations. Citing the fear that this and other ongoing legal issues involving Follieri would become detrimental to her acting career, Hathaway ended her relationship with Follieri in mid-June 2008

's Serena will reportedly play the unsuspecting ingénue who falls for a handsome European socialite. Ausiello reveals that the character's name is Gabriel and casting for the role is under way.
Although executive producer Stephanie Savage won't confirm or deny Hathaway-esque twist, she hints that Serena's love interest is "very well-traveled, part of the global elite. He's not a brooding artist like Dan or Aaron rose. He's definitely a grown-up, and that's something Serena is very attracted to."
