Born on September 16, 1981 in Houston, Teas, Alexis Bledel is an actress and former fashion model best known for her role as Rory Gilmore in the television series Gilmore Girls. She had likewise appeared in a string of popular movies, such as Sin City and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The daughter of an Argentinian father and a Mexican-American mother, her first language was Spanish and didn't even learn English until she began school. America Ferrera of Ugly Betty was surprised during an interview when Bledel started talking in Spanish. The two have worked together in The Sister of the Traveling Pants. Her foray into acting was initially just an initiative of her mother to get her to overcome her shyness. She thus tried out for community theater, subsequently appearing in local productions of Our Town and The Wizard of Oz. She was discovered at a local mall for fashion modeling. She attended St. Agnes Academy in Houston and later at Page Parkes Center for Modeling and Acting. She majored in film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Bledel's television debut was on the popular WB series Gilmore Girls in 2000, where she played Rory Gilmore, the daughter of single mother Lorelai Gilmore. First a high school student, she went on to study at Yale University where she edited the Yale Daily news. Her role on the Gilmore Girls made her one of Teen People's "25 Hottest Stars Under 25."
Bledel then appeared in the music video for Less Than Jake's lead single, "She's Gonna Break Soon" in 2003. Two years later, she played Lena Kaligaris in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. She then appeared as prostitute Becky in Sin City.
In her free time, Bledel counts reading, hiking, and photography as her hobby. She also plays recreational soccer.
