Filling in the shoes of a beloved actress on a long-running soap opera: who says that's impossible? It may not be the same, but it's true that a network would make any gamble just to improve ratings. For a series like
General Hospital, it's going to be tough to find a replacement for Vanessa Marcil's own Brenda Barrett. But hold your tear-jerking horses, since it's only a rumor as of now.
In 2003, Vanessa Marcil left
General Hospital after returning to the show following her six-year stint. She was offered another chance to play Brenda this year, but she hasn't responded yet since she was busy with another series,
Lipstick Jungle. However, someone who seems to have a lot of time on her hands is actress Alyssa Milano, who has been rumored to be the new Brenda.
Since Milano's series,
Single with Parents, hasn't been moving forward, she's been targeted to recreate the role of Brenda Barrett for
General Hospital. Many will think that Vanessa Marcil is definitely irreplaceable, but the time has come for a change in the program.
General Hospital has been doing pretty badly in the ratings lately, and it's in dire need of a boost. Milano was previously discussed by the execs as a possible Brenda before
Single with Parents was picked up. She might just be what
GH needs to shoot up those TV points. But if it's not Alyssa Milano, who do you think it could be?
One person who doesn't seem worried about the small screen is
General Hospital's own
Jason Thompson, who portrays Patrick Drake on the soap opera. Thompson has been set to work with his friend Donnie Eicher on the feature length documentary,
Victory Over Darkness.
Thompson will be the Executive Producer for the project, which deals with the true story of three Ironman triathlon sportsmen who are also blind. The film has already been praised by several critics, and was recently included in the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis.
