Another soap vet will soon return to stir up some drama in Port Charles. Emmy Award-winning actress Finola Hughes is set to reprise her role as Anna Devane on General Hospital for an intriguing May sweep storyline starting on May 12.

"As we continue to uphold the tradition of good storytelling and bringing back our legacy characters, it was a perfect choice to have Finola return to the canvas as part of the upcoming story for May.  We have listened to the fans by creating one of the most anticipated reunions in daytime television between Robert and Anna Scorpio," ABC Daytime president Brian Frons said in a statement.

In General Hospital's much awaited plot, Anna literally "drops in" when Luke (Anthony Geary) and Robert (Tristan Rogers) are on the run from the law while visiting the fictional Maarkam Islands.

During her stint on General Hospital, Hughes won a Daytime Emmy in 1991 for Outstanding Lead Actress.  Nine years later, she was nominated for the same category for playing Anna Devane's identical twin sister, Dr. Alexandra Devane Marick on All My Children.

Hughes also appeared on the sitcom Blossom, and as the X-Men character Emma Frost in the 1996 TV movie Generation X.  She was also a frequent guest star on the television series Charmed playing mother Patricia "Patty" Halliwell.  She also provided the voice of Lara Lor-Van, Kal-El's biological mother in Superman: The Animated Series.

"I am very excited to be reprising the role of Anna and reuniting with my General Hospital family.  My return has to do with Kimberly McCullough [Robin Scorpio] convinced me to come back to Port Charles… and whining a lot," Hughes said of her return.

At present, Hughes is the host of Style Network's How Do I Look? and is also the author of the hit novel Soapsuds.
