is CBS' newest police drama launching this summer. The series, which consist of 13 episodes, is about an elite big city Strategic Response Unit (SRU) that is inspired by Toronto's Emergency Task Force.
Originally developed by CTV, Canada's largest privately owned English language broadcast network, and Toronto-based Pink Sky Entertainment, Flashpoint
follows the dangerous lives of a group of cops that rescues hostages, busts gangs, defuses bombs, climbs the sides of buildings and talks down suicidal teens. As they race against time to find out what brought these people to their respective breaking points, members of this highly skilled team use their expertise in negotiating, profiling and getting inside the suspect's head to diffuse the situation in attempt to save lives.
The series stars Enrico Colantoni
, Hugh Dillon and David Paetkau. Colantoni is a Candian actor who is known for playing womanizing fashion photographer Elliot DiMauro in the sitcom Just Shoot Me!
More recently, he portrayed the role of Keith Mars on the Rob Thomas television series Veronica Mars
. He also had supporting roles in movies like The Wrong Guy
, Galaxy Quest
and Artificial Intelligence: A.I.
Dillon, on the other hand, was the lead singer for the Kingston hard rock band The Headstones, which became one of the most commercially successful Canadian bands of the 1990s, from 1987 until 2003. After scoring and writing compositions for various television productions, this Canadian musician eventually landed roles on television series like Degrassi: The Next Generation
, ReGenesis, Durham County
, and most recently, The Gathering
. In the big screen, he also worked on several films such as Surveillance, Trailer Park Boys: The Movie
and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning.
As for Paetkau, he is best known for playing Evan Lewis in Final Destination 2
, in which his character met a horrible fate with a ladder, and the deceased Beck McKaye on the TV series Whistler
. He has also appeared in I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer
and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
