And now there are 12. Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars may have lost one celebrity already, but that just means that the competition will be fiercer. Considering that all of the competitors are tried-and-true dancers, competition is not something to laugh at. See how they all do in this Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars recap!
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
Of course, we can't move forward without a quick look at the past. Pamela Anderson and Tristan MacManus were the first All-Stars eliminated from this season's DWTS
competition -- not a huge shock after they earned the lowest scores for their performance. Just above them, however, were Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy... Will that be a problem this week?
Meanwhile, up at the top, we have Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke. Can they keep it up? It's hard to say with strong challenges coming from multiple celebrities. We've also go two new dance styles -- the jive and the quickstep.
Basically anything can happen. (You know, within the logical boundaries of dancing on television. I'm not expecting World War III or the cure for AIDS or anything.)
So let's get to it!
Based on what I see walking down the stairs, it's going to be a... weird night for costumes on Dancing with the Stars
. We're talking cowboys and Charlie Chaplin in addition to the usual sequins and sparkles.
First up?Melissa Rycroft and Tony DovolaniDancing the jiveMy Comments
: Ooh! Between the legs right at the beginning! What can I say? I'm a sucker for dance moves that little girls like to do in the playground. If they start spinning each other, I'll be in heaven!
As for the actual dance (and not my fond memories of childhood), it's fast and ridiculously fun. Assuming they got the steps right -- since I can never tell -- this was excellent.Judges' CommentsLen
: "The first one out sets the bar, and I'll tell you what -- you have set the bar high!"Bruno
: "Melissa's the fastest girl in town!" "No more candy for the rest of the week." Carrie Ann
: "You are made to jive."
Len and Bruno sort of got into a fight about whether there were any problems...
: 8+8+7.5 = 23.5Bristol Palin and Mark BallasDancing the quickstepMy Comments
: Don't you have to be a little poorer than Bristol Palin to be a redneck? Also, guns make Bristol want to dance. Dance, pilgrim! Dance!
I don't really see how the quickstep goes with a cowboy theme, but whatever. This is Dancing with the Stars
. Why question things? Bristol looks a little uncomfortable at times, and she visible misses a few steps about three-quarters of the way through. But the stepping on Mark at the end is kind of awesome.Judges' CommentsLen
: "I liked the fun, I liked the entertainment, I liked the enthusiasm of the dance." "I liked the hoedown, but the technique was a little bit lowdown."Bruno
: "That was definitely different. It was like watching the quickstep goes gangnam style in the Wild West." "You've got to work on the technique."Carrie Ann
: "You've come so far, and it's really exciting to see." "You slammed us in the face."Scores
: 6+6+6 = 18
Not so good there...Helio Castroneves and Chelsie HightowerDancing the jiveMy Comments
: Helio can really jump, can't he? Technically, this dance looks great and Helio is putting his all into performing it. But there's something that just seems a little off. His movements aren't wooden, but I still feel like Helio is too stiff and detached for this. So weird!Judges' CommentsLen
: "You've always got this great smile, and for jive that's what you want."Bruno
: "It was sweet in the interplay." "Sometimes you pump it a little too high." Carrie Ann
: "This week, your body caught up to the charm that was going on on your face."Scores
: 8+7.5+7.5 = 23 Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina SmirnoffDancing the quickstepMy Comments
: Who was Apolo standing next to before the commercial? It was definitely not Karina. Oh well.
This is a much more classic-style quickstep than we saw earlier. It makes it a little easier to take. The flipside of this is a lack of super-noticeable moves to bring in the audience. Of course, feet moving so fast and perfectly that you can barely believe it do help... Wow. That was indeed quick.Judges' CommentsLen
: "Gold medal!" "Speed with control -- well done."Bruno
: "Your footwork was incredible." Carrie Ann
: "Someone put on his competition pants tonight." "I felt you were truly driving the dance."Scores
: 8.5+8+8 = 24.5Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van AmstelDancing the quickstepMy Comments
: Cute opening by the watercooler. Not sure what it has to do with the rest of the performance, but hey!
Sabrina may be suffering for coming right after Apolo -- her quickstep is fast and precise, but Apolo was faster and more precise. On the other hand, this is a more ambitious and showy piece of choreography. So it might even out.Judges' CommentsLen
: "You kept all your upper body calm and under control." "It was a great quickstep. Well done."Bruno
: "Is it Miss Ginger Rogers at her best?" "You did a treble quick -- I've never seen that before!" Carrie Ann
: "That was ridiculous! Your top line is something I've never seen before ever in the history of Dancing with the Stars
: 9+8.5+8.5 = 26Kirstie Alley and Maksim ChmerkovskiyDancing the jiveMy Comments
: Maks has a good point -- it must be hard to compete against Olympic athletes.
Where did they hide Kirstie's hair? This beginning is a little theatrical, but I'm enjoying the performance. Kirstie is definitely not moving as much as a lot of her competition. But she's out-performing most of them. Judges' CommentsLen
: "I can't handle all this." "It was neat, it was precise... I thought it was a great improvement on last week."Bruno
: "The girl works hard for her money. Next time, get the cash first."Carrie Ann
: "Mamasita!" "You are working it, and age is just a number." "Match your movement style just a little bit more."Scores
: 7+7+7 = 21Emmitt Smith and Cheryl BurkeDancing the quickstepMy Comments
: Apparently, Emmitt has a crooked head. Interesting.
They have hats! This dance already wins. Weirdly, this is totally music I would have attached to jazz. But it's a quickstep. Emmitt is excellent at this, just like he was last week. The only issue I see is when they're dancing close together -- Emmitt is kind of too big to fit! Judges' CommentsLen
: "What I like is that cool-cat attitude." "The overall feel of the dance I thought was great."Bruno
: "The energy's great." "Always slinky and slinky-smooth..."Carrie Ann
: "I think they did a little better than you tonight." "I want to see the tight frame."Scores
: 7.5+7.5+7.5 = 22.5Drew Lachey and Anna TrebunskayaDancing the jiveMy Comments
: There is a stop sign on the stage. And Drew is hanging sideways on it. He can do that? Drew's chains are a little distracting, but this dance is still good. There's something a little choppy about the performance. Not too bad, of course. Unlike many men on Dancing with the Stars
, Drew is actually pulling his weight. I like that.Judges' CommentsLen
: "You've got to get on the balls of your feet in jive." "Bottom-two Drew? Not this week."Bruno
: "Rough and ready! All that aggression and anger!" "Be careful, because you look flat-footed."Carrie Ann
: "Welcome home, Drew!" "We've never seen this kind of thing."Scores

Brooke Burke-Charvet's dress may be made out of duct tape.Joey Fatone and Kym JohnsonDancing the quickstepMy Comments
: Ah, we're getting one of those black-and-white beginnings. And then color thankfully comes back! This silent-movie theme is totally working for me. Especially since they're dancing to a swing version of "Creep" by Radiohead. That's kind of blowing my mind.
Oh, and the dance. It's fun and fast and kind of awesome. No clue if it's perfect and I don't care.Judges' CommentsLen
: "Poor posture. Bad footwork. Lost body contact. Frame wasn't constant. But I really enjoyed it."Bruno
: "You do entertainment." "It was like recapturing the magic of the flickers in the '20s."Carrie Ann
: "I still want to see fantastic performances just like that." "You did have a few mistakes."Scores

"If I suck, I suck. What are you going to do?" -- Joey FatoneShawn Johnson and Derek HoughDancing the jiveMy Comments
: Oh, it's a Hairspray
Also, wow. Derek is not exactly a retiring, easy-to-ignore partner, but Shawn is managing to keep up with him in both technique and performance. She looks perfect at every moment and is a lot of fun to watch as well. This is the jive we've been waiting all night for!Judges' CommentsLen
: "There was just enough technique. And just enough is great."Bruno
: "That was vibrant, exhilarating, eye-popping!"Carrie Ann
: "I dub you guys the all-star sweethearts!"Scores
: 8.5+8+8.5 = 25Kelly Monaco and Val ChmerkovskiyDancing the quickstepMy Comments
: OK, all of the time spent recapping this show was made worth it by the image of Val in a pink bra with water-balloon boobies.
We are back to another of the more classical quicksteps. And it's beautiful. The prettiness of the dance matches Kelly's Barbie-doll dress perfectly. Seriously, five-year-old girls are drooling over this one. My inner five-year-old is anyway. She's like a music-box dancer!
I liked that, OK?Judges' CommentsLen
: "I thought your spins were terrific." "When you're in hold, that's when you tend to get all this bunchy-scrunchy stuff going."Bruno
: "Pretty in pink and extremely elegant." "You tend to lose your frame." "You messed up a couple of steps."Carrie Ann
: "Watch your lines when your out of hold." "Because your tiny, dance bigger."Scores

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd
Dancing the quickstep
My Comments: Poor, injured Gilles. Maybe he'll just play the piano. Nope. Oh his doctors are going to be mad!
Gilles isn't pushing it as much as he might maybe but it's hard to tell because he's still doing great. And bending and lifting in ways that can only lead to more injury. Nice job. There were injuries? Seriously?
Len: "Fast, attack, dynamic -- fabulous!"
Bruno: "Let the good times roll! Great!"
Carrie Ann: "It's so much fun watching you dance." "I'm seeing a little John Travolta thing happening here."
Scores: 8.5+8.5+8.5 = 25.5
