Despite several criticisms from the Parents Television Council (PTC), highly acclaimed Dexter
has managed to make its way into network television, much to every fan's delight. The series had already established a solid fan base while it aired on Showtime, and now, the season 1 reruns on CBS are the talk of the town.
Late last year, the series had completed the 12-episode long run of the second season just in time to avoid the WGA writers' strike. Shortly thereafter, it was renewed for a third season, which was reported to start filming in fall of 2008. While it's going to take several months before Dexter
airs its third season, fans can catch the season 2 DVD to ease the wait.
In fact, Showtime and Paramount Home Entertainment are already preparing for the release of Dexter - The Complete 2nd Season on DVD
, which hits retail stores on August 19. As of now, there is still no further information about the disc, but rest assured we will keep you updated on any further announcements.
Meanwhile Julie Benz
, who plays Dexter Morgan's (Michael C. Hall
) girlfriend, Rita Bennett on the Showtime drama series, is keeping herself busy while waiting for the new season to start filming. In fact, she is set to hit the big screen yet again, following her appearance in Rambo
earlier this year alongside Sylvester Stallone.
It seems that Benz is one woman who's not afraid of all the blood and gore, as she recently signed on to be part of the cast of the Lionsgate/Twisted Pictures' fifth installment of the Saw
franchise. The Dexter
star will be portraying an elegant British woman who just might get caught up in Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) mind games. The production started filming earlier this month and the movie is set to be released on October 24.
Apparently Benz has her 2008 schedule full, as she will also be working on the big screen adaptation of Punisher: The War Zone
. Rest assured, though, that she will be back in time for the much-anticipated third season of Showtime's Dexter
