7 Spoilers from the 'Dexter' Season 7 Premiere
Thursday, September 27, 2012
When Showtime's serial killer drama Dexter
ended last season, it did so with the biggest cliffhanger the show had
ever done. As Dexter murdered Doomsday Killer Travis Marshall, Deb
walked into the church to see her own brother killing someone. "Oh God,"
Dexter (and the audience) said.
Now the show is back starting Sunday, September 30 at 9pm on Showtime, and it's time for some answers. The season 7 premieres takes place on one very, very stressful day following the actions of the season 6 premiere. There's death, puppies, callbacks and shocking twists.
Here are seven bits to get you excited for the premiere.
The Opening Scene
You might assume the first thing we see in the season 7 premiere is the conclusion to Deb discovering Dexter's secret. Instead, the show jumps forward a day for an exciting but misleading scene.
The "I Snapped" Defense
We know that Dexter will try covering up the murder of Travis by claiming that he just snapped, trying to get Deb to believe this is an isolated incident. If you think there's no way Deb can possibly believe that nonsense because she's not a total moron, you're not wrong. It's going to take Dexter more than just a couple of words to convince her.
The episode features important flashbacks to Deb and Dexter as young kids when the Morgan family briefly got a pet puppy. It doesn't end well, but not in the way you're probably thinking.
Back to Seasons 1 and 2
As Dexter nears the end of its run, the show is going back to the beginning. The Ice Truck Killer case from season 1 and the Bay Harbor Butcher case from season 2 (as well as Dexter's brother Rudy/Brian and Sergeant Doakes) all play a major role in the actions of the premiere.
Victim of the Week
Dexter doesn't take much time off from doing what he does best: getting deserving victims on his table. But the first person to get wrapped in plastic after Travis is not your typical victim of the week. He's played by Dollhouse's Enver Gjokaj, and he's a lot more important than you might think.
The season 7 premiere is cleverly titled "Are You...?" And I'm willing to bet, if you think really hard, you can fill in the ellipses for yourself.
The Biggest Cliffhanger Ever
If you thought the season 6 finale, with Deb walking in on Dexter killing Travis, was the biggest cliffhanger the show could ever come up with, you're wrong. Within 10 seconds of the season 7 premiere ending, I predict you will go online to try and purchase a time travel machine so you can jump to next Sunday, because you won't be able to wait seven whole days. It's that good.
