On NBC's Sunday Night Football last night, my Seattle Seahawks took on the supposedly terrible New Orleans Saints. The Seahawks continue to punch their fans in the stomach and lost in what can only be described as a putrid effort. The ratings for Sunday Night Football reflected that, with the broadcast averaging 7 million viewers, about half of what it did last week. I chalk it up to America's east coast bias. In other Sunday night news, Desperate Housewives
is once again the dominant show, winning the overall crown as well as proving unbeatable in the key demos. I still can't get over these Seahawks, though. I don't blame you, America. I wouldn't have watched either if it wasn't for hopeless hometown optimism.
Highest Rated Show of the Night: Desperate Housewives
– 18.6 million viewers
8pm Time Slot Winner: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
– 12.2 million viewers
9pm Time Slot Winner: Desperate Housewives
10pm Time Slot Winner: Brothers and Sisters
- 12.7 million viewers
I want to give a little shout out to the CW, who saw their two “hip” shows that air in the 7pm hour (CW Now, Online Nation
) lose even more viewers, lowering the shows to almost obscene numbers for network series. Neither show broke a million viewers. Both of those series are made on the cheap, so they'll likely last the season.
Life is Wild
, another fledgling CW show, lost viewers as well, finishing with a hair over one million at 8pm. At 9pm, Desperate Housewives
gained over a million people to finish with those lofty numbers. Cold Case was the biggest riser of the night, finishing with a 14.7 million person audience, up two million from last week.
Brothers and Sisters
(12.7 million) barely edged out its only competition Shark
, which finished with 12 million.
