Days of our Lives: January 16 Live Thoughts
Days of our Lives: January 16 Live Thoughts
Days of our Lives begins again.  Philip (Jay Kenneth Johnson) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) are at the docks on the lookout for Crystal's van.  Philip is impatient and wants to take matters into his own hands, but Shawn gives him a lecture on how to conduct real police work.  Right, like he'd know.

Crystal (Ashlee Holland) has stopped the van in an alleyway to evade police surveillance.  She explains to Belle (Martha Madison) that no one wants to kill her and no one wants ransom; they are just protecting her and Claire.  She tries to give Claire a bottle of cough medicine to keep her sedated, but Belle swats the bottle away.

I think Days of our Lives would be much improved with the addition of some real zombies, but we'll have to make do with John (Drake Hogestyn).  He wakes up in the hospital with Marlena (Deidre Hall) by his side.  He wants her to break him out of the hospital.

Marlena can't let John escape, but assures him that he's not a criminal like Stefano told him.

Bo (Peter Reckell) gives Philip and Shawn the update on the van's whereabouts.  He tells the boys to stay out of sight.  Yeah right, like that's going to happen.

Belle and Crystal continue their argument.  Belle wants to know what is going to happen to them and where they are being taken.  Crystal can't tell her but assures her that she's only trying to keep them safe.  Crystal offers her some hot coffee from a thermos, and Belle takes it.

Marlena tells John that she has missed him for so long and still sleeps on her side of the bed.  She says that life without him is unbearable for her.  John blankly stares at her and asks to please just break him free.

Belle takes the mug of coffee, throws it into Crystal's face and punches her.  Then she grabs Claire and runs out of the van.  Out on the docks, Bo holds up Rob at gunpoint and asks where Belle and Claire are.  Then Belle inadvertently runs into him, and Rob grabs Claire.  It's a tense standoff that could have been prevented if Belle didn't run straight for Rob in the first place.  Note to self: don't run into my kidnapper if I want to escape.

Marlena pulls out pictures of Brady, Belle and Claire to show John to somehow jog his memory.  But John is single-minded in his desire to just break free of his handcuffs.  John threatens to yell and scream until he gets moved unless Marlena busts him free.

At the stand-off, there's a scuffle and Belle somehow gets thrown into the water.  Philip, artificial leg notwithstanding, jumps into the water to pull her out.  She was in the water for only about a second, but she seems not to be breathing.  Philip performs CPR.  Meanwhile, Rob has managed to escape to Crystal's van with Claire.

John counts to three, but Marlena covers his mouth with her hand and then counter-threatens.  And then she promises to introduce him to his family.  He reluctantly agrees, but only because he has no choice.

Belle is put on a stretcher when she regains consciousness.  She asks for Claire, and Philip tells her that she's with Shawn.

John yells for the nurse to remove Marlena out of the room.  The nurse says that she'll have to sedate him, and John pleads not to drug him.

Belle is not being taken to the emergency room right away because they have to administer a course of medication first.  As they are done, Belle gasps and goes into cardiac arrest.  The paramedics have to shock her heart, but it doesn't work and the paramedic says she's gone.  Don't worry, though!  No one on Days of our Lives ever dies, and Belle is directly descendant from John, who will never die, no matter how hard he tries.  Philip is almost about to give up, but then Belle starts breathing again.  See?  Wait, what was the whole point of that if she's just going to revive herself a minute later?  Sadly, Shawn comes back to tell them that he wasn't able to keep on Crystal's tail.  I don't fault him, I fault Bo for putting Shawn in charge of getting Belle.

Marlena tells the nurse that she will be over-riding the other doctor's orders and John will not be sedated unless she approves.  John is impressed that she's a doctor, and tries to wheedle her into unlocking his cuffs.  She doesn't, though.  Good girl.

Bo reassures Shawn that he put an APB out for Claire.  Philip bows out and offers to back off so that Shawn can tell Belle about Claire.  So, he's letting Shawn do all the hard work, eh?  I get'cha!

Marlena continues her talk therapy on John, and it looks like she might finally be getting through to him.

Next on Days of our Lives: Shawn isn't giving up until he finds her daughter, Marlena promises that Stefano is never coming near John again because she's going to kill him.  Fat chance of that.  Stefano is even more like Rasputin than John is!
