UPDATE: Apparently Aikman was joking, and will not join DWTS. The Dallas Morning News is now reporting that they emailed Aikman to ask if he will appear on Dancing with the Stars. His response: "Heavens, no." Aikman's Fox reps also said he was just playing with the videographer when leaving an L.A. restaurant Wednesday night. The original story is below.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Troy Aikman told TMZ that he will appear on Dancing with the Stars "this year." No confirmation as to whether that means he will join this fall's season 11 cast or swing in for season 12 in early 2011.

But, as TMZ noted, "It's pretty unusual for a celeb to spill the beans before ABC makes its official announcement ... so if he was being serious, there might be some hell to pay down the line." He sounded pretty serious in the video.

If he joined the cast, Aikman would be in good company as the eighth former or current NFL star to take his skills from the field to the ballroom: Jason Taylor, Jerry Rice, and Chad Ochocinco have all learned to salsa in sparkly shirts on the show. His former teammates Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, known with Aikman as the Triplets, have both competed, meaning that Aikman would complete a sweet casting trifecta for ABC if he signed on.

In a decidedly less convincing casting rumor, Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Guidice tweeted her interest in appearing on the show, but wanted to get her fans' opinion first: "I am thinking about doing "Dancing with the Stars" though. What do you guys think?"

Of course, Teresa did not mention whether she'd actually been approached about doing the show, which most would agree is the essential part of becoming part of the cast. So this might be (and probably is) wishful thinking and rumor-riling on the part of the Jersey star.

Further proof she probably won't make the cut: Teresa thinks she can "make" the DWTS producers do what she wants. Another tweet: "Who should I make them give me as a partner? @MaksimC [Maksim Chmerkovskiy] is the hottest, no? And he's fiesty like me!"

But there's one thing we have to agree with Teresa about: the costumes are definitely her.

ABC's Dancing with the Stars reps make it a hard and fast habit not to "comment on casting rumors." But Dancing with the Stars season 11 premieres September 20 on ABC, so we can probably look forward to an official cast announcement in late August or early September. Until then, we've got our own wishful thinking to do:
