Dancing with the Stars

Last night's Dancing with the Stars was all about drama.  Perennial frontrunner Kristi Yamaguchi suffered the ignominy of falling to second place on the leaderbaord, and Cristian de la Fuente had to interrupt his routine due to a severe muscle cramp in his arm that sent him to the emergency room.

Stay tuned for the entire hour tonight to see how Cristian is doing, to see who will get sent home, and to see Def Leppard!  Def Leppard will be performing tonight!  I'll be on hand providing live thoughts throughout the entire broadcast of Dancing with the Stars.

Live!  From Hollywood!  This is Dancing with the Stars!

Len requests Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska's quickstep for the encore tonight.

Before we get to the elimination, Len gives a special announcement: they are lifting the lift ban!  Starting next week, they will be allowed to perform one lift in each routine, but it must be done in character to that particular style.

And now, the nitty-gritty.  The first couple definitely continuing to the next round is Kristi and Mark Ballas.

Oh goody, the first edition of DanceCenter of this season!  Kenny Mayne, Len Goodman and Jerry Rice give their commentary.  Kenny and Jerry have crazy, sparkly eye makeup going.  They first talk about Mario, who is younger than some of Len's drawers.  Next Kenny rips on Shannon Elizabeth and her shocking lack of cardiovascular strength.  He shows a clip of Shannon jabbing Derek Hough in the "man area" in rehearsal.

OMG, and the part of the night that I have been waiting for - Def Leppard!!  They perform "Pour Some Sugar On Me."  I can't even tell you how much I love cheesy arena rock bands.  I regularly request all of my male friends to grow out their hair wild and crazy-like, and I'm obsessed with playing air instruments.  The pros who are dancing are dressed in super sexy latex dominatrix stuff too.  (Cheryl wore hers before the paso doble in wee 4.)  Awesome.

Next Tuesday is the 100th episode of Dancing with the Stars.

Samantha Harris is backstage with Kristi and Mark, and Edyta and Jason.  Does anyone else think that Samantha is really awkward in public speaking?  How did she get this job?

Oi vey.  There's a lot of filler tonight.  I guess, with only six teams remaining, you have to do something.  Time for DanceCenter again.  Kenny talks about Kristi and her newfound sexiness.  Jerry looks straight into the camera and says, "Kristi Yama-hoochie" and winks cheekily.  Kenny next points out Tony's predilection for baring his chest, but Jerry is more frightened by his frighteningly white teeth.  Kenny also outs Jason for farting in rehearsal.  Funny stuff.

Another couple who has earned enough audience votes to continue on till next week, are Mario and the newly single Karina.

It's worth pointing out that we haven't seen Cristian yet.  I hope we get an update about his condition soon.

Def Leppard again!  Performing "Nine Lives" from their new album, Songs from the Sparkle Lounge.  This is my first time hearing the song, and I'm heartened to find that they haven't lost their sound.  I like it.

Continuing with the elimination.  Oh Cristian and Cheryl are onstage!  Did I miss them somehow?  Oh, but we have to wait through another commercial break.

After the break, Tom brings Cheryl and Cristian over to ask about his injury.  During the routine last night, Cristian says that he ruptured a tendon in his arm, and he'll need surgery to repair it.  But the doctor says that if the audience continue to vote to keep him around, the surgery can be delayed.  Woah.

And, Cristian and Cheryl are safe!  Wow!  Jason and Edyta are also safe.  In the bottom two are Marissa and Tony Dovolani, and Shannon and Derek.

And purpleodd is totally right, Shannon and Derek have been eliminated.  Shannon gets choked up a little.  They dance their last dance.
