'Dancing with the Stars' Semi-Final Results: Is There Any Hope?

In terms of standard Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show airings, this is pretty much the biggest night of the season. Tonight, we find out if J.R. Martinez can overcome a hurt ankle to take his expected place in the finals... If Rob Kardashian's last-minute surge is enough to keep going... If the audience loves Ricki Lake as much as the judges do... If Hope Solo has any hope (sorry, too easy) of survival...

Let's find out!

Alas, we will not actually find out much of anything for quite awhile. That's what the filler is for. And what filler! Muppets! Also, some singing and dancing (most notably by Cobra Starship). But who cares about the singing and dancing when there are Muppets in the house?

There will also, eventually be an elimination. Will it be Hope? Will it be one of the others? According to our BuddyTV Readers' Poll, 72 percent of you think that the most likely couple up for elimination is, in fact, Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. A smaller group (16 percent of voters) picked Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke instead. Only a very few readers seem to think that either J.R. or Ricki is likely to go home.

Not that we haven't been surprised before. But it does seem that surprise is less likely in the Dancing with the Stars semi-finals, considering the scores from last night:

1. Ricki Lake and Derek Hough: 67 points
2. Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke: 65 points
3. J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff: 56 points
4. Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 49 points

Let's find out if the scores reflect the results!

Yay! The rainbow is back -- thanks to an encore dance from Rob and Cheryl! It might not be quite as polished as last night. But it's fitting that an episode of DWTS with Muppets brings back a giant rainbow for a dance. We even get streamers again!

This seems to be immediately followed by some RESULTS! Rob and Cheryl get to hear their fate first.

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke are SAFE and in the finals!!!

But that's enough of the results thing for awhile. Instead, Cobra Starship (excellent band name, even if it is reminiscent of a classic rock/pop group) is performing. There are many fancy lighting cues involved in this. Also, someone is playing a keytar. The presence of a keytar officially makes everything more awesome.

It's time for Hope and Maks to get some RESULTS. They don't seem quite as positive* about the whole thing, probably for the obvious reasons.

* By "not quite as positive," I mean comments like "Kiss my booty" from Hope.

Awwww... That might be the saddest thing Len has ever said: "The thing is... We were nice."

Kind of makes me root for the evil judges.

Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy remain in jeopardy.

Also, Carson Kressley is back! I am becoming more and more convinced that he never actually left. Apparently, his purpose is to investigate the insane geniuses hidden backstage in the wardrobe department of Dancing with the Stars.

In the interest of filling more time, the Macy's Design-a-Dance thing is happening. Derek Hough and Anna Trebunskaya are dancing to "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga. This involves some dramatic (although not Gaga-crazy) costumes and a lot of fog.

I'm not sure why Dancing with the Stars doesn't want us to see Muppets. Instead, we get to hear about how male dancers get picked on. Bullying sucks, but the PSA isn't very interesting. The dancing, on the other hand, is quite good.

Tom Bergeron takes pointers from Gonzo very well. Hey, it's like Kermit isn't actually playing that piano! The people dancing are not actually dancing. This is a bit of a disappointing performance -- a cheesy song, real-people dancers and just a few close-ups of Muppets. They could do better. Muppets are still cool. This fake Muppets-in-the-studio thing is disappointing though.

Anyway, back to the RESULTS! J.R. and Karina, Ricki and Derek are getting some info. And...

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff remain in jeopardy.

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough are SAFE and in the finals!!!

OK, it's time for the final final RESULTS of the night, telling us which dancers will be in the finals and which are going home. Will it be the fairly obvious Hope and Maks? Or the much less obvious and kind of shocking J.R. and Karina.

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff are SAFE and in the finals!!!

Which means that...

Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have been eliminated from Dancing with the Stars!!!

Thus, the finalists in Dancing with the Stars season 13 are:

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke
Ricki Lake and Derek Hough
J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff

Not exactly the lineup we might have guessed at the beginning, is it?
