Julianne Hough may not turn out to be the front-runner of Dancing with the Stars season 8 but, at least, her country singing career is already off to a great start.  Her self-titled album has been out for nearly a year now, and her songs like “That Song In My Head” and “My Hallelujah Song” have quickly become country hits.  Most recently, the 20-year-old singer won the award for Top New Artist at the American Country Music Awards.

This year, fans were given the chance to vote for the Top New Artists’ awards.  Hough was voted as the Top New Female Vocalist, and had to contend with the Top New Male Vocalist, Jake Owen, and the Top New Duo, the Zack Brown Band, for the grand award of Top New Artist.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.

As Hough got to the stage to accept her award and give her speech on Sunday, she said, “It’s a good thing my dress ripped – now I have something else to think about!”

So what’s next for Hough?

"I will be taking next season off," Hough confirmed, adding that she'll be busy touring and bringing out the "real" Julianne Hough.

Hough’s temporary exit on Dancing with the Stars isn’t exactly fresh news.  The professional ballroom dancer has been pondering on leaving the show to concentrate on her singing career early this  year but had to put off her plans to join her boyfriend Chuck Wicks on the dance floor.

"I'm definitely going to focus on the music," Hough said at the time. "My first album was a learning experience, and I can't wait for the next one.  I feel like the writing and producing will be even better, really awesome."

"I wasn't planning to come back this season because I wanted to focus on my music," Hough explained.  "But I went back and it’s been so much fun to dance with my good friend who happens to be my boyfriend."
