Dancing with the Stars 8: Top 11 Performance Live Thoughts (Page 1/4)
The fourth week of competition begins on Dancing with the Stars.  In tonight's performance show, we'll likely learn about more celebrities who have fallen victim to injury so far this season, since that seems to be a weekly occurrence on the show these days.

Tonight's performance show will be an exciting one because two new styles of dance, never before seen on Dancing with the Stars, will be introduced: the lindy hop and the Argentine tango.  The new styles will inject some life into the series, especially since lifts will be allowed in the routines.

Stay with me, and I'll fill you in on everything that happens tonight!

Live!  From Hollywood!  This is Dancing with the Stars!

Len Goodman gives a rundown on the two new styles of the evening, the Argentine tango and the lindy hop, the former about sensuality and passion, the latter about tricks and lifts and rock and roll.

David Alan Grier and Kym Johnson have the lindy hop first.  The lindy is high-energy, and as Kym says, "the best cartoon character wins."  Their rehearsal tape looks really tense, they struggle to pull of the big lifts.  Kym brings David to the LindyGroove in Pasadena to see some really hoppers in action.  Their routine tonight has period costumes and music, and they do pull off the high-energy, party-like atmosphere of the lindy.  I love this style.  It's so much fun.  Not bad for the first performance of the evening.  Len says that this performance was not his best, but not his worst.  Bruno agrees that during the fast parts, he lost his footing a bit, but it was a good performance nonetheless.  Carrie Ann disagrees; she thought it was a great performance and thought that David didn't lose rhythm at all.  The scores: Carrie Ann gives 8, Len gives 7 and Bruno gives 7, for a 22 out of 30.  Samantha Harris sounds a bit hoarse tonight.  I hope this means that she'll do less talking.

Lil' Kim and Derek Hough are the first couple with the Argentine tango tonight.  During rehearsal, Derek warns Lil' Kim that this style is very serious and passionate, so she can't laugh or smile while she dances it.  Derek isn't very familiar with this dance either, so he's having to learn it alongside Lil' Kim.  Lil' Kim has a fabulous gown on tonight that is cut high and low in all the right places.  They do an impressive back-and-forth of steps, and the whole thing is very serious.  They have a lot of technical prowess and I love the choreography, but instead of a real chemistry between them, I'm seeing them think about each step that they're taking.  The tango has the potential to be burning with heat, but to me, they were a bit cold.  However, I must be missing something, because the audience gives them a standing ovation.  Bruno stands up and raves and raves (like a really tan Bela Lugosi, according to Tom Bergeron).  Carrie Ann loves it as well, complimenting on Lil' Kim's beautiful extensions.  Finally, a judge who agrees with me - Len says that he loved the choreography, but he thought that they were lacking in sensuality.  Lil' Kim and Derek get indignant.  The scores: Carrie Ann gives 9, Len gives 8, Bruno gives 10 (the first 10 of the season), for a 27 out of 30.
