Dancing with the Stars 8: Lil' Kim is Rising to the Top
Since the beginning of this season of Dancing with the Stars, it seemed all but guaranteed that Gilles Marini, Melissa Rycroft and Shawn Johnson would comprise the final three, in some kind of order or another. However, the last couple of performances has shown that Lil' Kim shouldn't be ignored as a possible contender as the next winner of Dancing with the Stars.

Last night, Lil' Kim and Derek Hough performed an energetic jive to the tune of Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock." Derek played the part of the convict, while Lil' Kim was the sexy prison guard hired to keep him in his place. It probably would have hit too close to home if Lil' Kim were the prisoner, wouldn't it, since Lil' Kim is herself an ex-con?

Derek is especially gifted at choreographing jives, and this week was no different. Lil' Kim more than held her own, injecting a genuine love of the dance into her performance. The thing about Lil' Kim that is so refreshing is that backstage and during her interviews, the excitement and giddiness that she feels is palpable. Especially in comparison to Lawrence Taylor, who seems to approach the competition with a tedious resignation, Lil' Kim is just a bundle of joy.

It's pretty much to be expected that head ballroom crankypants Len Goodman would have been so down on this fun-loving jive, maybe because it was so fun. He complained that there weren't enough standard jive steps in the routine, and the score he gave it was two full points below what Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli gave it. But since Carrie Ann and Bruno gave Lil' Kim 10s, that still left the team with a pretty damn good score of 28 out of 30, the highest of the evening. Maybe Lil' Kim is turning herself into a frontrunner.

Tonight night on the Dancing with the Stars results show, each couple's judges' scores will be combined with audience votes to determine the bottom two couples who will have to dance-off against each other. Also featured in tonight's results show is country sensation Rascal Flatts. Don't miss it!
