Again, Abby uses a theme this week that I wouldn't have expected to be synonymous with young girls - Nip and Tuck. This seems to be more of a dig at the moms than anything else, as we learn that Kelly has been hoping her husband would reimburse her for her maternal duties and get her a new pair of ladies. (Preferably back to her pre-baby C cup size.) Abby claims this is teaching the girls a lesson about body image, but I'm not sure she really teaches them anything or that they even get why they are dancing about plastic surgery.
Dance Moms is available on Amazon Prime.
The biggest prize this week isn't to be on top of the pyramid, but to impress the representative from the Joffrey Ballet. In the dance world, getting a chance to perform in front of such a reputable scout is an opportunity of a lifetime, so the stakes are high for each girl this week regardless of their position on Abby's pyramid. Unfortunately, this also means twice the pressure, and it really seems to be taking its toll even on veterans Chloe and Maddie.
Once again, the Dance Moms attack Melissa, but this time it isn't about her questionable engagement. Kelly and Christi get defensive about the attention, or lack thereof, that Abby isn't giving their daughters. Maddie clearly remains Abby's favorite, and I don't blame the other moms for getting upset about it. It's a tough call - Maddie is deserving of the attention she gets because she is an amazing dancer, yet the other moms pay the same as Melissa and get about half as much attention. I don't think they should be jumping down Melissa's back, but rather telling Abby that she needs to devote just as much time to their daughter's dances. Then again, I don't blame them for avoiding confrontation with Abby. She's scary.
Instead, the moms must sit back and watch while the girls are split up into two trios - Maddie, Chloe, and Brooke vs. Mackenzie, Nia, and Paige. It's obvious who are the frontrunners will be in the competition, and I wish Abby would have split them up more evenly to give both groups and equal chance of winning. And poor Nia, how many more hits can she take? After a foot injury, forgetting her routine a couple weeks ago, and a sub-par performance last week, she can't seem to catch a break.
Maddie's solo and the trio of Chloe, Brooke, and Maddie all took first place in the competition this week, and the whole groups' superior dance skills earned them an invitation to audition for the Joffrey Ballet summer program. Needless to say, Abby and the moms are thrilled for their girls and can only hope for the best. I'm a little worried though - if Maddie and Chloe were this nervous this week in front of the scout, I can't imagine what could happen when they actually audition against thousands of other dancers. Maybe one of the underdogs like Nia or Paige might come out and impress everyone. I guess we will have to wait until next week to see how they stack up!
What do you think of tonight's episode? Does Maddie deserve the extra attention from Abby? Who do you think is the best dancer in the company? Leave your comments and come back to BuddyTV next week to see who makes it through to the Joffrey Ballet summer program!
