Titles make everything seem a little more real, don't they? If that is true, then the impending end of Chuck has just gotten very real. We now know the title of the Chuck season 5 -- and series -- finale. It's going to be a sad goodbye.
According to a report from TVLine
, the season 5 ender will be titled, "Chuck vs. the Goodbye." This will be the 13th episode of the current season -- airing as a two-hour finale on Friday, January 27.
The title seems appropriate, doesn't it? It is also maddeningly vague, meaning that it's time to let the speculation begin!Goodbye?
titles are often a meta reference to the position of the show within a season (like season 4's finale, "Chuck vs. the Cliffhanger") or to larger events in the series (like "Chuck vs. the Ring" Parts 1 and 2), there is also typically an episode-specific component as well. If there is a "Goodbye" important enough to make it into the title, then we can bet some goodbyes will be said in the episode.Goodbye to Whom?
The scariest -- and most likely -- goodbyes would be between Chuck
characters. There have been wild rumors and unsettling speculation flying about that some main character on the show will meet his or her demise before the end of season 5. Could the "Goodbye" in the Chuck
season 5 finale title refer to a final goodbye said to a fallen hero?
Let's hope not.
Slightly less scary is the notion that characters will be moving on with their lives, necessitating farewells. Chuck
executive producer Chris Fedak noted, when talking to reporters, that Ellie and Awesome might well be moving forward in their successful (and awesome) lives
. "Chuck vs. the Goodbye" might simply be in reference to a parting between the Bartowski siblings.Goodbye to What?
On TV, formal farewells are often required for inanimate objects and locations as much as they are for people. With this in mind, it is entirely possible that Chuck, Sarah and the gang will be saying some sort of "Goodbye" to the old Buy More. The newlywed Bartowskis are not too likely to stick around a Burbank electronics store forever (no matter how good a cover it makes). And you know Casey can always find another security gig somewhere in the world.
Granted, if most of the characters say goodbye to the Buy More, then they are also likely to be saying goodbye to Jeff and Lester. There's no way either of those guys would ever leave their green-shirted home.
