
The new year is ushering in a batch of pre-strike episodes of several shows, one of which is ABC's
Boston Legal. The last time viewers caught a fresh installment of the legal dramedy was December 18, but the network is getting ready to break the dry spell, starting with an episode called “Mad About You.”

In “Mad About You,” Denny (
William Shatner) tackles a high-profile murder case but turns down Alan (
James Spader) when he offers help. As Denny basks in the limelight, Shirley (
Candice Bergen), Carl (
John Larroquette) and the rest of the firm fear the embarrassment Denny's latest search for relevancy might cause. Jerry (
Christian Clemenson) and Katie (
Tara Summers), meanwhile, are given the case of a divorced woman who want's to sue her husband's law firm because it promotes divorce as the solution to all marital problems.
“Mad About You,” scheduled to air on January 15, was written by Boston Legal creator/ executive producer David E. Kelley and Lawrence Broch, and directed by Tom Verica. Guest stars include Bess Armstrong as Penelope Kimball, Jenifer Lewis as Judge Isabel Fisher, Xander Berkley as A.D.A Rex Swarthmore, Valerie Mahaffey as Mary Winston, Lou Beatty Jr. as Judge Gordon Kolodny, Grant Shaud as Perry Winston, Patrick Fabian as Attorney Stanley Gould and Amy Hill as Dr. Kathleen Rosewall.
The following Tuesday, January 22, the episode “Roe v. Wade, The Musical” will air. Shirley takes on the case of Missy Tiggs (guest star Meredith Patterson), a woman whose husband left her, after which she stole a man's semen and used to artificially impregnate herself. Shirley finds herself facing Alan in the courtroom when he is hired to defend the man whose semen was stolen. Meanwhile, Jerry ends up representing a former flame – a woman by the name of Leigh Swift (guest star Mary Gross) who also suffers from Asperger's syndrome and is an objectophile – when she loses her teaching job for hugging a student.
Kelley and writer Susan Dickes are credited for both the episode's teleplay and story, while Jill Goldsmith co-wrote the latter. Steve Robin directed the episode.
Other guest stars in “Roe v. Wade, The Musical” include Jere Burns as Attorney Joe Isaacs, Ron Canada as Judge Willard Reese, Elizabeth Dennehy as Samantha Taylor, Tom Kemp as Oliver Atkins, Roma Maffia as Judge Victoria Peyton and Aaron D. Spears as Terrence Maxwell.
All in all, there are only four pre-strike
Boston Legal episodes that remain, with the final two – “Glow in the Dark” and “Rescue Me” – still awaiting definite air dates.
