Chloe Sevigny isn't just an Academy and Golden Globe Award-nominated actress. She's also a budding clothing designer, and tonight, is set on celebrating the new fashion line that she made exclusively with Opening Ceremony. The event kicks off at 10pm at Webster Hall in New York City, featuring a special performance by The Slits and DJ sets by her brother, Paul Sevigny, Benjamin Cho, Leo Fitzpatrick, Brian DeGraw and Nate Lowman.
Sevigny, who currently appears on the HBO drama series
Big Love, has been working on the clothing line for Opening Ceremony since last fall. She told
Paper magazine that her partnership with the chic New York boutique came about “so organically.” She had told
Fashion Wire Daily that if she were to design a clothing line, she would most definitely work for Opening Ceremony. When Humberto Leon, the boutique editor, learned of this, he immediately contacted the actress and made a deal.
Having been on hiatus from
Big Love at the time, Chloe Sevigny eagerly jumped at the chance.
"In the beginning I was really excited. I had a lot of ideas and I went in with a lot of sketches," she said. "And then the fear started to set in: What if it doesn't work? What if people don't like it? I started really doubting myself."
She has managed to conquer that fear, however, and is now eager to see her eclectic and uniquely-styled collection, which will be available starting today, out in public.
"I think my favorite part of the process will be when I see a girl walking down the street in the clothes," she said.
While Chloe Sevigny has been commended for her personal style and high taste in fashion, her character in
Big Love has yet to embrace a more adventurous attitude towards clothing. On the show, she plays Nicki Grant, one of the three wives of businessman Bill Henrickson (
Bill Paxton). She is known to be a strict follower – and enforcer – of the principles of polygamy, a modest dresser and a woman who is deeply suspicious of the world outside the compound.
HBO is currently airing reruns of
Big Love and has yet to announce a premiere date for the show's third season.
