ANTM, how we have missed you! Seriously, my Wednesday's are woefully empty without crazy Tyra-bots, ridiculous photo-shoots, and catty elimination ceremonies. While there's still a few weeks until the premiere of Cycle 12 of
America's Next Top Model, we're going to get the competition started with this cycle's "Judging by Appearances." To do so, we are going to look at a single CW promo photo and determine each girls modeling potential. We like to think of it as the BuddyTV version of the high fashion designers who choose their runway show models based on make-up-less impromptu Polaroids.
Today we'll look at the first half of the 13 finalists for Cycle 12 of
America's Next Top Model and we'll tackle the remaining contestants and judge their model-esque fierceness tomorrow. (Check out Part Two

Allison: On first glance Allison looks a little boring, but upon closer inspection this girl has some real potential. She has the wide-set doll looking eyes that have taken the fashion world by storm lately. And even though it's her first photo, Allison has her angels down...something numerous previous
ANTM contestants never get the hang of. We foresee Tyra "edging" Allison out--darkening her mousy hair and giving her a funky hair cut. If done correctly, she'll look like a living
Mark Ryden painting, which in our minds is a very good thing.
Aminat: Aminat is giving some major attitude in this first shot, which makes us like her immediately. While most people's beauty would over-shadowed by a gigantic afro, we happen to think Aminat looks amazing with hers. We hope they just trim down Aminat's afro and let her keep her unique look, but knowing Tyra Aminat could end up bald or platinum blonde. The only possible issue we see Aminat facing, is the same one
Cycle 6 winner Danielle Evans faced, at the wrong angle the photo seems to focus directly up her nose. However, we foresee most people being too mesmerized by Aminat's lips to even notice.
Celia: To be honest when we look at Celia, we don't immediately see model. Sure she looks like every lovely Swedish girl bicycling around Stockholm, but that does not a model make. Her legs look like normal people legs and not anorexic stick figures, which makes us worry she'll be treading the territory of
Cycle 9's Sarah--too 'big' to be a regular model and too small to be considered plus-sized. Furthermore, at 25 Celia is handicapped in an industry (and TV show) obsessed with youth and fresh faces.
Fo: Not only does Fo have a unique name, she has a unique look. While it's hard to tell with this 90210-goes-to-the-mall styling, Fo appears to be a little punk rock girl, with delicate skull tattoos on either wrist. She also has adorable freckles across the bridge of her nose and cheeks, which we hope Tyra and Co. choose to embrace rather than airbrush. With the right hair cut or the addition of so killer extensions, we could see Fo going far in Cycle 12.
Isabella: Isabella looks like
Cycle 10's Amis' long-lost blonde doppelganger. This could fact could both help and hinder Isabella. On one hand Amis had a great face and angles the camera loved. On the other hand Amis didn't get far in Cycle 10 and the only thing that got her as far as she did was her personality. Isabella is going to have to pull out something special to impress the judges and we're just not sure she has it.
Jessica: It was about time
ANTM had another spicy Latina in the mix, and it looks like this cycle Jessica is it. She has Angelina Jolie lips that also bow downwards (like
Samantha of Cycle 11), which Tyra loves. She and Aminat will definitely be in a battle for the most luscious lips of Cycle 12. While he first photo is rather uninspired, we're excited to see what Jessica can bring to the table.
