Singer and songwriter Joshua Scott “J.C.” Chasez was born August 8, 1976 in Washington, D.C. At the age of five, his biological mother entrusted J.C. to foster parents Roy & Karen Chasez, in the belief that it is them who could provide J.C. a good education and a stable family life. J.C. grew up without knowing who his real father is. After being adopted, he was raised in Bowie, Maryland where he also attended Robert Goddard Middle School and Bowie High School.
In 1988, with the help of his mother's prodding, J.C. went to the casting call for the Mickey Mouse Club. He selected Richard Marx's song “Right Here Waiting” as his piece for the audition. He was chosen to perform for the third season, along with future stars like Keri Russell, Tony Lucca, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and future band mate Justin Timberlake.
MMC was cancelled in 1994 but J.C. and Timberlake didn't let go of their passion and soon started to write songs. They eventually joined Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass and formed one of the most successful boy bands in the music industry, ‘N Sync. ‘N Sync had been successful in releasing their albums Home for Christmas (1998), No Strings Attached (2000), Celebrity (2001) and Greatest Hits (2005). The group's hit songs include “Tearin' Up My Heart”, “God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You”, “I Drive Myself Crazy”, “It's Gonna Be Me”, “Bye Bye Bye” and “This I Promise You.”
J.C. remained active in the music business throughout the years. In 2000, he wrote the song “Space Cowboy (Yipee-Yi-Yay)” for the soundtrack of the sci-fi adventure film Space Cowboys. In 2002, he also composed the song “Blowin' Me Up” for the romantic comedy movie Drumline. Two years after, he released his first solo album Schizophrenic with the hit single “Some Girls (Dance With Women).” He also wrote and produced music for other groups such as Girls Aloud, Basement Jaxx, Wild Orchid and Backstreet Boys.
