Kelly Clarkson Joins 'The Voice' Season 14 as New Coach

In the wake of ABC rebooting American Idol, NBC is trying to take as many of the franchise's top-tier talent off the board. Following news that Jennifer Hudson will serve as a coach on The Voice season 13 this Fall, now NBC has tapped original Idol winner Kelly Clarkson as a coach for season 14 in Spring 2018.

Clarkson will join regular coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, though the fourth coach for season 14 has yet to be named.

The announcement comes amid rumors that ABC was interested in hiring Clarkson as a judge for its reboot of American Idol, which will also debut in Spring 2018. NBC's move seems like an obvious bit of counter-programming, trying to lessen the impact of Idol's return by stealing one of the show's most famous names.
