American Idol 7: Brooke White Elimination Interview
Thursday, May 01, 2008

American Idol is intense.  The insane pressure that all of the American Idol contestants face on a weekly basis would destroy the weak-willed, and has turned great singers into shriveling piles of goo.  Knowing that you are being watched and judged by tens of millions of people is intimidating, no matter how good you are.  Brooke White was one of those people, it turns out, who was effected by the pressure of American Idol.  If you watched close enough, I'm sure you could have guessed this was the case - nerves were clearly taking their toll emotionally on Brooke during the American Idol season.  Earlier today, Brooke held a media conference call and discussed her time on American Idol.

Brooke White did an independent album, and performed around LA for a couple of years before going on American Idol.  She's done shows at the Roxy - mostly, clubs around LA.  When asked how she dealt with her nerves, Brooke correctly says that you have no choice.  She does admit that there was a lot of pressure she faced. Brooke says “Let it Be” was her favorite and best performance.  She was kind of expecting the elimination last night, and the finality of her elimination made her emotional.  She's an emotional girl, she says, and knows it comes across on stage.

Brooke says her husband is very supportive.  Brooke wanted to sing either Fleetwood Mac or James Taylor, but never got the chance because it couldn't get cleared.  She was thinking about singing Joni Mitchell next week.  Brooke actually got to speak with Carly Simon earlier this morning in an interview.  On the tour, Brooke says the contestants are going to sing about three songs apiece.  Brooke says she has not been brought over to the dark side since being on the series.  Brooke talks briefly about being a Mormon, and how crazy it is that two of the final five were Mormons.

She admits that she felt a little guilt after last week when Carly went home after she had her flubbed lyrics.  She says she's going to miss the camaraderie of the other contestants, and that the experience she's been on for the entire American Idol season is something that she will never recreate.  Her nerves really were an issue on this season, and Brooke had those feelings of fear flare up a few times.  She admits to having comparison issues, whatever those are.  She never thought she had a nice voice, or a big range, and has been intimidated by other singers forever.  She wants to do the Carly Simon/Carole King thing going forward – she wants to play guitar, play piano and write her songs.

Will Brooke have a successful career?
