Hudson, a 24-year old native of Chicago, attended Dunbar Vocational Career Academy. She auditioned for the third season of American Idol
in Atlanta, Georgia, and eventually made it as a finalist on the show. Unfortunately, she was eliminated on the competition on seventh place. After her American Idol
stint, she signed a record deal with Artista Records under Clive Davis who is popularly known to have guided the careers of famous artists like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. She was also included on the musical film Dreamgirls
that garnered her numerous awards and recognitions. In addition, she is the third African-American to grace the cover of Vogue
Moreover, Hudson is the newest in the celebrity loop to put their names to fragrances. According to the research firm NDP Group, celebrity fragrances made up nearly a quarter of the top 100 women’s fragrance brands in 2006, which is a significant increase from its 10 percent share in 2003. "This is an honor for me and very flattering," said Hudson.
