tour tickets will go on sale Saturday for an estimated forty-seven venues coast to coast. The American Idol tour will include the top ten finalists performing solo and as groups, headlined – naturally – by the winner of this years contest. The American Idol
tour has proven to be a secondary break out opportunity in itself, Chris Daughtry dominated last years reviews with his ‘made for the arena’ rock and roll , which helped to keep Idol’s most successful runner up in the news.
Another point proven that year was that participation was, arguably, optional. Runner up Katherine McPhee sat out most of the tour citing various ailments. In the end, she participated in less than half of the dates.
This year concert goers can expect to see Haley Scarntato, Blake Lewis, Lakisha Jones, Chris Richardson, Chris Sligh, Gina Glocksen, Phil Stacey, Sanjaya Malakar, Melinda Dolittle, and Jordin Sparks. (In no particular order, of course.)
As for who is headlining the tour, which will be decided next week after either Jordin, Blake, or Melinda is eliminated this week. So far, from the public sentiment and professional analysis alike, it is looking like a Jordin Vs Melinda finale. However, a lot of the same factors counted Taylor Hicks out of the game last year and his quirkiness avenged him to an unexpected win.
Blake Lewis certainly possesses the same level of quirkiness, but his oddball factor some might say is more tempered into a talent, beat boxing. If Lewis can wow the audience with his unique skills without overdoing it, he may be the performer on people’s minds when they pick up the phones. Oh, and Vote for the Worst is backing him too. (Not that he’s bad, but hey… a guy can use all the help he can get.)
