American Idol finally bucked the trend tonight. The elimination that came during tonight's Idol results show was not a surprise by any stretch of the imagination. One could argue that the lack of a surprise was the surprise, but I wonder what this might mean for the last few weeks of the season. Will everything continue to go as planned, with the Davids facing off on the
American Idol finale? Or, will a Daughtry-esque elimination rock the Idol world? We shall see. As for tonight, the only surprise was a certain dread-locked human's omission from the bottom two, but that may only be a surprise to people who don't find Mr. Castro pretty. Neil Diamond and a British pop star were on hand as well.
I chose
Jason Castro as my elimination prediction tonight. I am an idiot. I have not picked one elimination correct this season - this is unacceptable. I think, however, that I will get next week's prediction correct, and the one after that, and the one after that. Anyway, it's become clear that it doesn't matter what Jason Castro sings. The teenage ladies and dread lock afficianados love him and that is that.
The Bottom Two
Syesha Mercado:
Syesha, again in the bottom two. It was a mild surprise, but she has been a long time bottom dweller. There's a real chance that she makes the final three, if only because an all-men final three is unprecedented. She'll need some great performances next week.
Brooke White:
Brooke White should never have had to come on
American Idol. In fact, if the
American Idol producers hadn't made the rule change allowing contestants to use instruments throughout the season, she wouldn't have. Maybe Brooke would've made it to the Top 24, but not likely. She's awkward without a piano or a guitar in front of her, and she has trouble singing typical pop songs – this is not the cloth that Idol winners are cut out of. Nonetheless, she is talented, and has a unique sensibility. The question with Brooke, going forward in her career, will be her ability to write songs. If she can write good-to-great songs that tailor to her strengths, then she could be something. If not, hello anonymity. She was eliminated from
American Idol tonight, a contest she never had any chance of winning in the first place.
Who should have gone home tonight?
