Details are emerging about Simon Cowell's charity single for Haiti. As we reported last week, Cowell was recruited by British Prime Minster Gordon Brown to orchestrate a charity single to benefit the devastated country of Haiti. Today we learn what the single will be and a growing list of the big name stars who will be lending their voices to the project.

As reported this morning by MTV, Cowell's single will be an all-star cover of REM's melancholy anthem "Everybody Hurts." Joining Cowell's British reality star proteges Leona Lewis (X Factor) and Susan Boyle (Britain's Got Talent) will be some of the biggest names in the business. While confirmation hasn't come for every reported celebrity participant, a tentative list includes: Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, Wyclef Jean, Rod Stewart, Take That, Mika, James Blunt, and Michael Buble. Hopefully some big name American Idol stars will also join the cause soon.

Recording for the single started this weekend, with Simon's fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Cole laying down a track. Leona and Cheryl won't be the only X Factor alums on the project, former contestants Alexandra Burke and JLS are also participating. A release date has not yet been announced, but Cowell wants to release the single as soon as possible so the proceeds can begin helping Haiti. To guarantee the charity single goes solely to charity, Cowell has arranged with Prime Minister Brown for taxes to be waived on sales.
