Dylan McKay Still Not Returning to '90210'
He's not going to do it.  We all thought he would, but it just doesn't look like he will.  The CW wants him to, the fans want him to, his bank account probably wants him to, but it simply ain't going to happen.  And, you know what?  That's fine.  Sometimes, a person has to stand up for themselves, they have to stay true to what they believe in, they have to not “sell out,” even if the whole world is seemingly conspiring against them.  90210 is a series that, still in its infancy, has chosen a direction.  It's not ground-breaking, it's not genre-bending, it's not flashy.  It is what it is – a nostalgia trip.  Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty have bitten the apple and, really, they did it because they've come to the conclusion that their careers are not going to improve upon what was given to them by the original Beverly Hills 90210.  Making the decision to come back to West Beverly was a positive move, one that won't adversely affect their acting careers.  This might not be the case for Kelly Taylor's estranged baby-daddy.

Dylan McKay is the father of Kelly Taylor's baby.  This was revealed on Tuesday's episode of 90210.  And, once again, Luke Perry has made it clear that he has absolutely no intention of returning to Beverly Hills as Dylan.  Have the 90210 writers been making a blatant attempt to woo Perry back?  Who knows?  It certainly seems that way.

In a conference call earlier today, Luke Perry addressed the 90210 issue.  When it was revealed that Dylan was Sammy's father, fans have been clamoring for the return of Dylan.  Perry's conference call was in regards to his upcoming appearance on Law and Order: SVU's season premiere on September 23.  When asked about a possible return to 90210 given how his character's name has been bandied about, Perry said: "When you're in the professional acting business, you have to look at all offers, but.... creatively, (playing Dylan) is something I've done before and I don’t know that I'd benefit from going back and doing it again."

That's fairly definitive, and a stance I can respect.  Brian Austin Green, currently playing Derek Reese on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, has shown that you can rid yourself of the 90210 sheen if you have patience.  Perry is trying to do the same thing.  If he believes that he can still embark on a prolific acting career at this point, going back to 90210 would be a lateral move at best.  It might be frustrating to hear for hardcore 90210 fans, but they're going to have to live with it.  Dylan McKay isn't coming back anytime soon.
