Renee is back in with the Russian mob, but Jack knows a crispy critter when he sees one and calls Brian Hastings to demand that she be pulled out NOW. Following the grand tradition of 24-Characters-Who-Ignore-Jack-At-Their-Peril, Hastings brushes him off. When Bauer argues there are other ways to make Vlad talk, Hastings retorts that they don't do that anymore. No siree bob, not when they have The Full Biometrics Package in their bag of tricks.
In another corner of CTU, Dana runs across info on $120K in drug money being stored in an evidence warehouse. Since this meets the stringent six-figure criteria established by sleazy ex Kevin, she calls with details and asks him to meet her to pick up a key card she's forging. Maybe Dana goes along with him because she finds it a pleasant distraction compared to Arlo's never-ending supply of sleazy come-ons. The Chloe we know and love is reawakened when she puts him in his place without even breaking a sweat.
Fortunately, at the clinic where Josef has taken his brother Oleg for treatment, not only is the lab staffed at this hour, but they manage to get the bloodwork done in mere minutes. Unfortunately, the doctor determines the best course of treatment is surgery. Josef says hmmm, not an option, what's Plan B? The question becomes moot when Papa's goons track the brothers down and add the good doctor to the trail of bodies they've already left.
Renee tells Vlad her buyer is Ernst Muir, a German businessman. When she mentions working with him for a couple of years Vlad's jealousy is piqued, but it subsides at the thought of a $5 million deposit up front. When he tries to cozy up to Renee and offer an apology, her lukewarm acceptance prompts him to demonstrate his sincerity by calling her a bitch. He dispatches his cohort Dimitri to meet Ernst to pick up the deposit. When Dimitri again argues against this deal Vlad says of course he's not going to follow through. Once the money's safe he wants Muir dead.
Back at the UN, as predicted by President Taylor's staff, the roundup in Kamistan doesn't sit well with the rest of the countries involved in the peace treaty. Taylor plans to address them personally to ask them to stay the course. Meanwhile, one of Hassan's aides brings him news that one of the arrested men is related to a high-ranking member of his UN delegation. Hassan orders him to be detained and the arrest takes place in front of the British delegate. Awk-ward! Afterward, the aide places a call to Hassan's daughter asking her to meet. Is Hassan still trusting the wrong people?
With Dimitri off to kill ... er, meet Ernst/Jack, Renee asks to clean up and Vlad meets her coming out of the shower. Really, is it a good idea to get naked in the vicinity of a man who already has a history of attacking you? Vlad continues to ladle on the charm by hurling his whiskey glass against the wall and ordering Renee to come to him, telling her the deal's off if she doesn't. Jack, who's still listening, tells her she doesn't have to do it but she thinks otherwise. She goes dark, literally washing her com down the drain, and proceeds to pimp herself out for the cause.
When Dimitri and Jack meet the Russian immediately tries to trip him up by addressing him in German. Is there a 24 fan alive who had even a nanosecond of doubt that Jack would be able to reply in kind without missing a beat? After demanding to speak with Vlad, Jack pulls out his computer to transfer the funds. This is why it pays to be with the good guys; Hassan's brother Farhad is STILL waiting out his transaction. Once the deposit is made Dimitri and his men go for their weapons, but before you can say Danke Schoen bullets fly and three of the Russians are down. Once again Jack is a step ahead, and had Cole Ortiz as backup..
As the hour nears its end we check back in with Bazhaev and his sons. After a lecture about filial obedience he proceeds to show his devotion to family by kicking the crap out of Josef and putting a couple of bullets in Oleg. Next week the competition for the uranium rods heats up (sorry) and, unbelievably, Dana and Kevin's warehouse heist hits a snag ... a show of hands from anyone who saw THAT one coming.
