There's a whole
lot of good news at CBS as the network officially renewed 14 of its
shows for the 2013-2014 TV season. The list includes critical favorites
like The Good Wife
, reality competitions Survivor
and The Amazing Race
, hit shows like NCIS: Los Angeles
and Blue Bloods
freshman drama Elementary
and newsmagazines like 60 Minutes
Here's a complete list of the 14 shows CBS has renewed2 Broke Girls
Mike and Molly
NCIS: Los Angeles
Person of Interest
The Amazing Race
The Good Wife
The network has previously renewed The Big Bang Theory
, How I Met Your Mother
The renewals means that, early next season, both NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife will celebrate their milestone 100th episodes, bringing the network up to at least seven scripted shows with 100 or more episodes airing at the same time (that list doesn't include bubble shows Criminal Minds, CSI: NY, Two and a Half Men and Rules of Engagement, so it could be as high as 10 or 11).
This only leaves a handful of shows still on the bubble. Criminal Minds is awaiting word, but it's all-but-certain to return. Also in contract negotiations is Two and a Half Men.
Shows that are less likely to get picked up are CSI: New York and Rules of Engagement. Freshman dramas Golden Boy and Vegas also remain up-in-the-air.
The massive slate of renewals is a testament to how strong CBS is as a network. All of this means the network only has four available hours for the fall schedule, and since Criminal Minds is probably going to be renewed, that cuts it down to just three hours, assuming everything else on the bubble gets canceled. While other networks are looking to pilot season for a bunch of new hits, CBS can be much more selective as it doesn't need much.
