The release of some controversial pictures from NCIS September 23 premiere had every die-hard NCIS fan utterly obsessed at how things would on the show.  Yet what particularly caught a lot of people’s attention was that of a scantily clad Ziva (Cote de Pablo) in what appears to be a dark bar.  NCIS executive producer Shane Brennan sort of answered the question on everyone’s mind without giving too much to spoil the premiere.

“Without giving away too many secrets, the answer to why Ziva is dressed in a sexy, backless dress and singing in a smoky bar will be answered in the opening moments of the season 6 premiere, so fans won’t have to wait long to find out the ‘why’ of it,” he said.

“But I can divulge one more piece of the puzzle: the ‘where’ of it.  The bar is in Morocco.  And did I mention that in the opening episode a member of Gibbs’ team gets blown away?”

If we backtrack, the overhaul on Gibbs’ (Mark Harmon) team was because of the reassignment of a lot of people, including Ziva, who was ordered back to Mossad.  Tony (Michael Weatherly) was sent to the nuclear-powered supercarrier USS Ronald Reagan, while Tim (Sean Murray) was reassigned to the cybercrimes unit.

Whatever the reason was, it’s most probably more complicated than being fired during the finale last May and consequently needing something else to pay the bills, as Ausiello stipulated.  It was revealed weeks ago that Jonathan Magnum, Liza Lapira and Jonathan LaPaglia will be joining the cast of NCIS as replacements to the three who departed.

Officer Ziva David is a Mossad (the national intelligence agency of Israel – although de Pablo is Chilean-born) agent who was sent to NCIS after the murder of Special Agent Caitlin Todd by a rogue Mossad operative.
