This week, fans will witness a Project Runway first as Tim Gunn reveals something that will push the designers to the edge.  What could it be?  Fans will have to stay tuned tonight at 9/8c on Bravo to find out.  On the other hand, we do know that it involves a “green theme” and a certain Oscar-nominated actress.

Natalie Portman, who recently starred alongside Scarlett Johansson in The Other Boleyn Girl, will appear on tonight’s episode of Project Runway as a guest judge who will critique the eco-friendly designs of the remaining 15 contestants.

This should come as a complete shock to the Project Runway participants as they have no idea that Portman is coming to the show.  It will also be interesting to see how Portman responds to what the designers have come up with given that award-winning actress has been a vegetarian since childhood and is an advocate for animal rights.  So anyone even thinking about trimming their idea with leather, fur or feathers might be in for a bit of a tongue-lashing.

Portman began her career in the early 1990s, turning down the opportunity to become a child model in favor of acting.  She became famous for her role as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, which paved the way for even more acting opportunities.  She was eventually cast in Anywhere But Here, alongside Susan Sarandon, as well as in Garden State, Cold Mountain and Where the Heart Is.  In 2005, she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in the drama Closer, which also featured Jude Law, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen a story involving deception, infidelity, intimacy and sacrifice.  Recently, she served as the youngest member of the Annual Cannes Film Festival jury.

Apart from acting, Portman also has quite a bit of experience in the world of fashion, having started her own line of vegan shoes with the label, Te Casan earlier this year.
