The news that Cote de Pablo is leaving NCIS has been talked about for months. Isn’t it about time to move on to discussing more than how Ziva will exit and instead focus on the rest of the show and its other actors and characters?

This Is Not About Ziva-Bashing

Let me start out by saying that this is not a Ziva-bashing article. I realize that the title may give that impression, but sometimes titles can be deceiving. I do not hate Ziva or Cote de Pablo, but at this point I have had about as much as I can take of everyone talking about Ziva’s departure from the show.

Everyone Has Talked About Ziva’s Exit

So far, most of the cast has talked about it in various and assorted interviews.

Michael Weatherly talked about it

Mark Harmon talked about it.

Even the executive producer of the show, Gary Glasberg, talked about it in an open letter to fans.

Yes, Ziva’s exit is going to be a significant event on the show. Yes, fans are going to miss her. Yes, I do think that not addressing it at all would’ve been a slight toward Cote and to Ziva.

But now that it’s been talked to death, it’s time to move on and talk about other things as well. Ziva’s exit is only the first two episodes of the season. Normally by now, the media would be full of information and spoilers and speculations going way beyond the first two episodes. This year we all seem to be stuck in a Ziva loop and I just want it to end.

Looking Forward – The Future of Cote de Pablo

Talking about Ziva leaving won’t make it any easier and I think it’s important that we remind ourselves that it was Cote’s decision to leave the show. She is moving on to other things and I for one wish her well in her future endeavors. I can’t wait to see what kinds of roles she picks up. So far, I’ve only ever seen her play this one character and I’m excited to see what other nuances she can bring to a new role.

Looking Forward – The Future of NCIS

Once we’ve all cried our eyes out after Ziva has left (and, believe me, I know I will be – I’m such a softie when it comes to stuff like that), there will be plenty to look forward to on the show. First up, EP Gary Glasberg said that a lot of fun people will be rotating through Ziva’s desk, giving Gibbs and the rest of the team lots to bounce off of, I’m sure. Then there have been the hints (and photos!) of more flashbacks to Tony’s time in Baltimore.

In addition, there’s also been news about Palmer and his wife adopting a baby, the return of Mike Franks (more flashbacks!) and, of course, the news that Ziva’s replacement may have already been found.

With all the good stuff to look forward to, let’s try to focus on the rest of the season and the fact that the rest of the cast is amazing and brilliant in their own rights. NCIS was around before Ziva and, as sad as it will be to see her go, the show will continue to thrive without her.
