Does FOX know about this? Can you believe they’re allowing their Idols to roam free on network television, traveling to whichever network happens to tickle their fancy? But, it’s all true. American Idol finalists Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle, and Jordin Sparks will be featured on NBC’s 4th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. Sounds pretty spectacular, right?
Well, if you’ve never heard of it either, don’t feel bad. Not a whole lot of people watch TV on the Fourth of July. The hour long event will air from 9PM to 10PM from New York City on the fourth and will be hosted by Natalie Morales and Tiki Barber, both members of the Today Show team. Martina McBride, long a favorite of many Idol contestants, will perform as well. What will the Idol finalists be doing?
Blake, Jordin, and Melinda will be singing a song together during the live festivities. What the threesome will perform is still a mystery. Interestingly, the Idols will be appearing on the one-hour special just two days before their American Idol tour begins in Sunrise, Florida. The tour goes on for a couple of months and will surely feature as much Idol as you can take. The interesting part about the tour is that, one has to assume that, if the finalists got their way, they’d skip the tour altogether and get right into the recording studio. Rather, with the tour, they have only a short window to record if they want an album out by Christmas.
The “spectacular” part of the “Fireworks Spectacular” will come in the form of 35,000 separate firework shells. That is over one thousand shells a minute. NBC claims that display is the most epic fireworks display in the country, but can they ever really know that for sure. There’s not some retired, crazy rich dude who owns his own lake and sets off 50,000 fireworks on the fourth? I’m guessing there probably is.
Anyway, if you want more of the three Idol finalists, tune in to NBC on the fourth.
