Jason Stackhouse

Jason Stackhouse

Played by Ryan Kwanten

Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) is Sookie Stackhouse's (Anna Paquin) brother on the HBO series "True Blood". Jason was the local high school football hero, but after high school, he didn't seem interested in pursuing a career so much as pursuing women. When the women he is sleeping with start turning up dead, including the love of his life Amy Burley (Lizzy Caplan), Jason himself begins to believe as the rest of Bon Temps, that he is a cold-blooded killer. What Jason didn't know because he was high on "V" (vampire blood), was that one of his co-workers and friends, Rene' Lenier (Michael Raymond-James) is the killer and had slipped in while he and Amy were passed out on V, strangling her with Jason's belt.

Amy had recently convinced Jason to help her kidnap a vampire, Eddie Gauthier (Stephen Root), and use him for his blood, keeping him chained up in the basement. When Jason, being the sweet boy his gran (Lois Smith) raised, began to feel bad about keeping Eddie against his will, Amy became infuriated and killed Eddie. Jason made Amy swear they would never do "V" again or he was going to leave her. She swore but later lures him into "one more trip". It's while they are tripping that Rene' is able to strangle Amy.

In season two Jason falls under the influence of a religious cult called the Fellowship of the Sun, and is seduced by Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), the preacher's wife. Jason is vulnerable as he is looking for absolution and justification for killing the vampire Eddie and trying to assuage himself of the guilt he felt for using "V" when Amy died. Jason trains with the cult to prepare for a day of reckoning for vampires and all unholy creatures. It is not until he realizes that his sister Sookie has been kidnapped by these people, that he snaps out of it and shows up with paintball guns to battle the religious warriors to free her.

Jason pretends to be the "God that comes" when he returns home to find Bon Temps in disarray and all the townspeople under the control of the manead Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes), who convinces them to attack Merlotte's in search of Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), her chosen sacrifice. Later Jason himself falls under the spell of Maryann and helps her restrain Sookie, offering her as a trade to Bill Compton (Steven Moyer) if he will bring Sam Merlotte to Maryann's wedding and sacrificial ceremony.

When Maryann is destroyed by Sam who shapeshifts into a bull, Jason is no longer under the spell. He does not remember anything, but is sure that he and Detective Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer) saved the town. When Eggs (Mehcad Brooks), a man Maryann had controlled remembers all the terrible things Maryann made him do, he tries to confess to Andy. Jason misunderstands the situation, and believing Andy is in danger, shoots and kills Eggs. Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley), a lifelong friend of Sookie, once secretly in love with Jason and now hopelessly in love with Eggs, becomes hysterical and Andy immediately takes the blame for the shooting, saying it was self-defense.
