Dr. Clark Edison (Eugene Byrd) is an assistant to the forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) on "Bones." At the end of the second season, Dr. Brennan's full-time assistant, Dr. Zack Addy (Eric Millegan) leaves the Jeffersonian Institute for Iraq. Dr. Edison's first appearance is in the first episode of the third season when Edison attempts to fill Zack's position. Edison is uncomfortable with Brennan's team because he considers their working relationships to be too informal and their attitudes to be unprofessional. In the same episode, Zack returns unexpectedly from Iraq. Edison stays until it becomes apparent that Zack will be reclaiming his position at the Jeffersonian.
At the end of the third season, Zack is forced to leave his position permanently when it becomes known that he's apprenticed to a cannibalizing serial killer. At the beginning of the fourth season, Brennan has a difficult time replacing him, so Dr. Edison becomes one of a rotating group of six interns. Of the group, Brennan describes Edison as the "most astute."
While in the lab, Edison continues to be unnerved by his co-worker's informal attitudes, so much so that at one point he quits. Eventually, he returns, claiming it's because of the Jeffersonian Institute's stellar reputation. Clark later leaves for a position in Chicago, but again he returns. This time because he wants to continue to work with Dr. Brennan.
