Just because Once Upon a Time is a show about fairytale characters doesn’t mean that the relationships can all have that fairytale happy ending so fast. Uneasy times are coming for a couple of relationships this season, as the cast previewed at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Jennifer Morrison, Colin O’Donoghue, Robert Carlyle and Emilie de Ravin sat down with reporters to discuss their characters’ relationships. The honeymoon’s not going to last for long for Rumple and Belle, and Emma and Hook’s relationship can be described only as a Facebook status at the moment.

Check out the video interview with Jennifer Morrison and Colin O’Donoghue:

Highlights from the interview:

  • Morrison thinks all of the characters have grown up over the past three years after what they’ve been through, Regina especially. “Because Emma cares so much for Henry and now cares for everyone in this town, she’s going to fight to keep Regina in a lighter place if she possibly can.”
  • When it comes to the Frozen characters, Morrison insisted, “They look so much like the characters,” and O’Donoghue agreed: “It’s unbelievable.”
  • As for Emma and Hook’s relationship, it’s a Facebook status right now: “It’s complicated.”
  • “We have to deal with Emma’s struggles with her past and some internal stuff that she’s afraid of that will be eventually revealed a few episodes in. We’ll start to see why she’s fighting letting go,” Morrison teased.
  • As for Hook’s side of it, O’Donoghue pointed out that “Hook gave up his ship. …[He’s] trying to become somebody he feels would be worthy of Emma.”

Highlights from the interview:

  • “There’s a lovely honeymoon moment in episode 1, which is very reminiscent of the Beauty and the Beast film,” Carlyle previewed, with de Ravin adding, “It’s an iconic moment.”
  • “She’s tried to see through or behind the monster to see what lies behind that, and she’s got closer than anyone has in hundreds of years,” Carlyle said of Belle.
  • “I think this season will certainly stretch their relationship to its breaking point,” Carlyle teased.

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
