The Young and the Restless: Drucilla Winters Might Return to Genoa City

Victoria Rowell, who is popularly known on daytime drama as Drucilla Winters, is reportedly in talks of returning on The Young and the Restless after leaving the show last April amid reports of hurt feelings and frustration with the direction of the soap.  While the network has not disclosed anything official, the 48-year-old soap vet states that she is “open” to a possible return to Genoa City.

Although Rowell’s character is believed to have fallen over a cliff and presumably drowned in freezing water, fans may not have seen the last of Drucilla.  According to Rowell, a dialogue between CBS and her representatives took place before Christmas last year, specifically regarding the re-entry of her character.  She says that the ball is in the soap’s court and that it is important for her fans to know that she’s open to come back and just waiting for an answer.

Rowell first joined The Young and the Restless in 1990 to portray the street child turned fashion model Drucilla.  She eventually became a fan favorite and was nominated for three Daytime Emmy awards in 1996, 1997 and 1998, and even won 10 NAACP Image Awards.  She departed the show in 1998, briefly returned in 2000 and then returned on a regular basis from 2002 until early 2007.  During her absence, she was temporarily replaced by Dawn McMillan in 1996 and by Kent Masters King in 2000.

Her departure from The Young and the Restless in April 2007 generated some media controversy. Rowell expressed her anger about backstage politics on the show, and in particular, how those events impacted her and prevented her from being nominated for a Daytime Emmy that year.  She also emphasized that she felt the African-American presence on the long-running soap was fading.

Meanwhile, fans can catch Rowell in her new drama movie Of Boys and Men, which is expected to hit theaters later this year.
