Supernatural’s Jo Harvelle, Alona Tal, is set to join the cast of a new drama next fall. Cane, an ensemble show on CBS, stars Jimmy Smits (The West Wing, NYPB Blue), as Alex Vega, the heir to a family fortune. It will reportedly run on Tuesday nights.

CBS describers the show as “an epic drama about the external rivalries and internal power struggles of a large Cuban-American family running an immensely successful rum and sugar business in South Florida.”

Rita Moreno, recently seen on both ABC’s Ugly Betty and NBC’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent, will also star as Amalia Duque on the show, which was formerly announced with the title “Los Duques”

Supernatural’s Tal will play Rebecca King. Also starring on Cane will be Eddie Matos as Henry Duque, Hector Elizondo as Pancho Duque, Lina Esco as Katie Vega, Michael Trevino as Jaime Vega, Nestor Carbonell (Lost’s Richard Alpert) as Frank Duque, Paola Turbay as Isabel Vega, Polly Walker (Rome) as Ellis Samuels, and Sam Carmen as Artie Vega.

Before appearing on Supernatural this season, Alona Tal has also appeared on Veronica Mars (Meg Manning), Commander in Chief, CSI, and Cold Case. This year she appeared in the film “Taking 5” alongside Zoey 101’s Daniella Monet. Tal and Monet play Devon and Gabby, high school students who kidnap members of their favourite boy band to get them to play at their school after accidentally sabotaging the school’s plan to win a contest.

Alona Tal and Supernatural star Jensen Ackles attended the Coventry SF Convention convention this month along with Allison Mack, Alan Ritchson, Brooke Nevin and Justin Hartley of Smallville. Ackles apparently was “attacked” at the convention by a rabid fan, who jumped on him in the hotel lobby and kissed him, as well as trying to chase him into an elevator. Ackles’ security escort apparently removed the woman.
