Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey

You can’t go anywhere online or watch any show on TV without hearing about the feud between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey at a recent American Idol audition stop. Here’s a quick rundown of what happened:

It all started Tuesday when TMZ reported that Nicki Minaj went off on Mariah Carey during an audition, even reportedly saying, “I’m gonna knock your teeth out.” Here’s a small sample of what can be heard by Nicki in the leaked video: “So every time you patronize me, I’ma take it back, and if you’ve got a f***ing problem, handle it. … I told them I’m not f***in’ putting up with her f***ing highness over there. Figure it the f*** out. Figure it out…” Producers ended up shutting down production for the day to let everyone have a breather. Watch the video obtained by TMZ below:

Ever since the video went public, more reports have been surfacing every minute of every day since then, it seems. One source had Nicki saying, “If I had a gun, I would shoot her,” though it is never heard in the video, and Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe denies that was said.

Nicki’s people say that the feud began when Mariah “repeatedly berated” her over and over to the point where Nicki couldn’t take it anymore and went off on her tirade, though others say that the blowup was fake and done to get ratings, with a source telling The Hollywood Reporter, “The Mariah-Nicki diva battle is exactly what Fox executives wanted all along. No one’s really worried. They know the parts they’re supposed to play.” But Barbara Walters spoke directly to Mariah on the phone to get her side of the story, which she recounted on The View:

Kelly Clarkson Announces New Single: “Catch My Breath”

Moving away from the ridiculous now, Kelly Clarkson has announced that she’s releasing a new single called “Catch My Breath” next week, as well as confirming a greatest hits album. She says on her official website, “To celebrate the strength and longevity that my fans, friends, and family have supported me with I wrote this song ‘Catch my Breath’ with one of my best friends that has seen me through everything. This song represents who I’ve been, what I’ve felt, and where I’m headed as not only as a 30 year old that is now smart enough to know that it’s time to stop, catch my breath, and be proud of not only what has been accomplished but of all the people that have helped me become the woman I am today.”

Kelly goes onto announce that the single will be one of the original songs to be featured on her upcoming greatest hits album, set to be released in November. An exact release date and track list are not yet known, but BuddyTV will update you when that information is available.

Crystal Bowersox Signs New Record Deal

It’s been almost a year since Crystal Bowersox was dropped by the record label that traditionally signs the Idol winners and runners-up. But now there’s good news on this front. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she has signed with a new record company: Shanachie Records. She says, “I’m happy to get back to work and glad that everything fell into place with Shanachie. I was going at it alone and now I don’t have to.” Since being let go last year by Jive Records, Bowersox has written almost 18 songs, some more complete than others. She says that this new music is “rootsy, folky and a little more subdued.” The new album is expected to be released in early 2013.

She still has to partner up with a producer, and then decide where to record (either in L.A., Nashville or New York). “I want to be open to whatever transpires. I have to get out of my own way.” This quote by the singer is very telling of how much she has changed since her days on Idol when she had a “trademark stubbornness” and was very particular in what she wanted. “I’m learning to go with the flow a little more. And I’ve come around in that I’m looking forward to collaboration because that’s the way that you grow. Learning through other’s experiences: I’m down for it. I’m ready.”
