Project Runway All-Stars kicks off January 5. Here, we refresh our memories about the designers who’ve set their sights on another shot at fashion glory.

Perhaps one of the most memorable characters, I mean contestants, from the Project Runway series, Austin Scarlett wowed us with his romantic approach to fashion. His larger than life personality may have been tiring at times, but it’s helped Austin become a fully-fledged fashion world personality — helped along by the impressive designs he delivers.

Project Runway History
Winner of the first ever Project Runway challenge, Austin Scarlett started strong, but struggled on the runway for most of the season, winning only one other challenge and falling into the bottom almost every week from then on. Yet he continued to try to prove that he was “put on this earth to give beauty back,” as he put it. Here are some of Austin’s best behind-the-scenes moments:

Post-Project Runway
Austin Scarlett has been a busy boy since his career took flight on season 1 of Project Runway. You may have seen his comical stunts alongside season 2 alum Santino Rice on Lifetime’s On the Road with Austin and Santino, traveling the country in search of fashion fixer-uppers.

And Austin’s sophisticated and classical aesthetic has definitely strengthened over the years, having served as creative director for six seasons of bridal and evening gowns for Kenneth Pool, as well as designing costumes for various theatrical performance artists.

While he may look harmless, Austin obviously knows his way around the fashion workroom. Can his creations keep him from landing in the bottom this season? Project Runway: All-Stars begins January 5 on Lifetime at 9/8c.
