In his quest to forge a better relationship with his father, Adrian Grenier, star of the HBO series Entourage, has cooked up an early father’s day special. He is set to star in a documentary called Shot in the Dark on Sunday, June 2 at 10:30 ET/PT on HBO.

Grenier, known for his lead role Entourage as Vincent Chase, has appeared in films like The Devil Wears Prada, A Perfect Fit, Love in the Time of Money, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence and Harvard man. He is also a known as a musician and member of the New York band The Honey Brothers.

In an attempt to bring light on why he has been abandoned by his biological father, John Dunbar, he has directed Shot in the Dark. Edited for seven years, the documentary explores the significance of father-son relationships through interviews of sons who never knew their fathers or who were mistreated, and even a father without any interest in knowing his children. In particular, it chronicles his lengthy search for his father who left him while he was still a baby. After spending years on the project, he has completed the documentary since he has finally found him.

On Shot in the Dark, viewers will discover the complex life of Grenier during his pre-stardom years. “It’s definitely a 180 for people who only know me from Entourage,” Grenier has said. “It’s a little scary knowing it’s getting an audience we never imagined.”

HBO has actually acquired the film two years ago. “We don’t do a lot of celebrity-driven stuff. But we were really quite surprised how genuine and raw it was,” HBO documentary chief Sara Bernstein says.

Before watching Shot in the Dark, you can catch Grenier on Entourage, which airs its third season finale on Sunday, June 3 at 10 pm.
