Biography

Born in Baranquilla, Colombia, Nina Garcia was educated at Boston University, where she studied liberal arts and then moved on to the Fashion Institute of Technology to pursue her passion for fashion. Consequently, she worked in the public relations department of Perry Ellis and Marc Jacobs, and moved on to be the assistant stylist and market editor of Mirabella Magazine. Garcia then furthered her career by becoming the fashion director of Elle Magazine in 2000. In 2004, she accepted the job as judge on the Bravo reality series, Project Runway. After several years with Elle, she worked at Marie Claire magazine and took up a position as its Fashion Director. She also became a judge for the Miss Universe competition in Mexico City. Other than that, she wrote several books, such as The Little Black Book of Style and The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own.
