The Emmys Report: Drama Lead Actor and Actress Races

June 9, 2009

A lot is made of the overwhelming number of great leading roles for women on cable, but if the official Emmy ballots are any indication, women are still a minority when it comes to starring TV roles.  On the official ballot sent to Emmy voters, there are 70 contenders for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, but only 48 for the Lead Actress category.

But the numbers don't help the major networks.  Despite the fact that more than 60 percent of the potential nominees come from the five major networks, it's the cable guys and gals who take the lead at the Emmys.

House: Hugh Laurie Worried For Kids

May 25, 2009

If your father plays an enigmatic, obnoxious, brilliant doctor bordering on mental instability, how would this affect you?  The star of Fox's top-rating medical drama House says he is slightly concerned that his "fame" and role may screw up his kids.  Hugh Laurie, 49, has three children with wife Jo - Charlie, 20; Bill, 18; and Rebecca, 15.  The kids live with their mom in the UK, whereas Laurie spends of his time in Los Angeles where House is shot.

"It's a very difficult thing.  I constantly marvel at how grown-up my children are, how grown-up they're being about this."

FOX Fall Schedule: 'Dollhouse' Renewed, 'So You Think You Can Dance' Season 6

May 18, 2009

Today FOX officially announced its schedule for the 2009-2010 TV season, and some of the changes are huge.  Aside from the great news that Dollhouse will be coming back for a second season, the other big story is that So You Think You Can Dance, which premieres its fifth season this Thursday, will air in the Fall as well for an immediate sixth season.

The So You Think You Can Dance move is unusual, but helps to balance out the schedule since FOX has American Idol in the Spring.  It also gives FOX the chance to do direct competition with Dancing with the Stars, a show that in recent seasons has taken several professional from former SYTYCD contestants.

'House' Creator Didn't Lie About Huddy Sex

May 18, 2009

A lot of House are understandably up in arms because of the heavily anticipated Huddy sex - and how it was done - on the finale of the medical drama's fifth season.  For those who haven't seen the finale, the romp, which was almost five seasons in the making, happened but not in the way most Huddy enthusiasts expected.  House (Hugh Laurie) and Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) didn't have sex; it was just a pigment of House's Vicodin-laden brain. In fact, the tandem did not just not advance, it even took a step back, as Cuddy took House to Wilson (Sean Leonard), who took him to the Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital.

Entertainment Weekly reports that, technically, while we may all feel duped by the matter of the Huddy sex as being illusory, series creator David Shore did warn that it will not be "what people expect" because they "have to do things our way, the House way," and that they didn't want the characters to do anything out of character.

House: Amber Not Going Away Soon

May 11, 2009

If you are tired of seeing Wilson's dead ex-girlfriend Amber (Anne Dudek) returning on House, then either get used to it or find something else to watch, as star Lisa Edelstein reveals that our beloved cutthroat bitch will continue to make her appearances felt on the Fox medical drama, still as part of House's (Hugh Laurie) subconscious.

"It's already been established that Amber is a big part of what's happening," Edelstein, who plays Cuddy on the series, says.  "She's somehow become the voice of House's subconscious.  And she's not going away."
