David Zayas

Biography

Born in Puerto Rico but raised in New York, David Zayas was a part of the United States Air Force and later the New York Police before becoming an actor. Thanks to his police experience, his work on television was mostly roles in law enforcement, although one of his more memorable roles was as prison inmate Enrique Morales in the HBO series Oz. He later starred as homicide detective Angel Batista in the Showtime series Dexter.

Zayas also appeared in numerous films, debuting in 1997’s Lena’s Dreams and most notably appearing in the Sylvester Stallone-produced flick The Expendables. He is also a musician, having played the percussions with artists such as Jason Mraz. Zayas is married to actress and playwright Liza Colon.
