Dr. Camille "Cam" Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) is a forensic pathologist and Head of the Forensic Division at the Jeffersonian Institute in the Fox show "Bones." Cam first appeared in the first episode of Season 2, although later in the series it is revealed that she was responsible for sending FBI Special Agent Seely Booth (David Boreanaz) to track down Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) in the first place.
Cam was born in the Bronx. She's a straightforward, no-nonsense woman who spent about ten years working as a forensic pathologist in less-than-great conditions in New York City before coming to the Jeffersonian. At first, she and Dr. Brennan (Emily Deschanel) were often in conflict. Their fighting came to a head when Cam briefly considered letting Dr. Brennan go. However, a couple of their co-workers made it clear to Cam that if Dr. Brennan left then they would also leave. Cam and Dr. Brennan eventually talked out their differences and found a way to work together. Since then, Cam has become an integral part of the team. In the lab, Cam is the voice of reason and she does her best to keep everyone grounded.
In the episode "The Doctor in the Den, " cardiac surgeon Dr. Andrew Welton is murdered. Cam revealed to her co-workers that ten years earlier she had a relationship with the man and for a time helped raise his daughter, Michelle (Dana Davis, later replaced by Tiffany Hines). In the course of solving the case, Cam reconnects with Michelle. In spite of a rocky restart, Cam takes Michelle in and eventually became her legal guardian. Cam has had a tricky time raising a teenage daughter, but she's doing her best, and Michelle seems to be accepting Cam as a mother-figure, not just a guardian.
Cam almost died in the episode "The Man in the Cell." While working, she is exposed to methyl bromide, a neurotoxin planted by serial killer Howard Epps (Heath Freeman). Later in the episode, Booth and Dr. Brennan hunt Epps down and find the cure that Cam needs.
Cam has known Booth and his brother for over fifteen years, and she and Booth were romantically linked both before and briefly during her time at the Jeffersonian. Booth ends their romance for good after she almost dies, claiming that their relationship puts Cam at risk. They are now only good friends. Cam also had a short affair with Angela Montenegro's (Michaela Conlin) ex-husband, Grayson Barasa (Sean Blakemore), which ended when Barasa left town.
The character of Dr. Camille Saroyan was only meant to appear for six episodes, but the writers extended her role to series regular. Starting in the seventh episode of the second season, Tamara Taylor began appearing in the opening credits, and since then she has been in almost every episode.
